      True Name

My given name does not portray my identity. I need to find my true name. Knowing it will help me grow and thrive as an individual, and be proud to call myself by it; I shy away from my given name, it doesn't fit. Unfortunately, this process of finding my true name is a pretty large and daunting task. Have any of you found your true name? Where can/should I start?

      By thinking one up.
No one can tell you anything about yourself and there are no "true" names or "true" traits out there about you. You are who you make yourself to be. Literally.
Just like purpose in life. There is no "higher" purpose. We all make our own.

Use whatever name you find suits you best.

And remember: names don't matter; what's important is how you live your life.

lol, your name was given to you by your parents. I wouldn't really worry about it fitting or not, because, either way you'll get used to it

      Do you mean soul name?

Do you mean like a soul name? If so I have a few ideas for mine. It can help you quite a bit, I do not know mine. Only know what it might be.

Good luck, if you need any help, you can PM me. I know a little bit about this.

I once asked who I was. I looked deep and waited for an answer. There was no answer, because I was expecting the answer to be a name. Instead I heard a small voice in my head say, "I...am!"

all names fall short of who you truly are. No name can capture your true self, as your true self can not be defined by a name. A name is just a word. You aren't a word. Do you know what God's name Yahweh means?

It means, I AM. Or I AM That I AM.

the same is true for all conscious beings

We did a task of the month a while back where we had to discover our dream name. Some people got some very silly answers, and others got some surprisingly meaningful ones. Either way, it is neat to get an answer from yourself, like this. I don't know if it will fit with your expectations of what your true name is, but it may be worth a shot.

Here is what people reported from the task:

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."

Names are just meaningless terms that help refer to someone/something....Find who you are in side, but I wouldn't fret over the label of it

"What's in a name...?" Well... there's what we call ourselves, what those close to us call us, what the world in general labels us, and then there's what Spirit calls us.

What we call ourselves is that which we want to be. That which those close to us call is is what others see us as. What the world in general labels us has very little bearing on anything of import. But...that which Spirit calls us is more than a name. It's a description not only of who we are, but who we will be, what we will do, and how we will do it. At least inasmuch as Spirit has Dreamed for us. This is your TRUE Name.

Finding your True Name is an important part of finding out who you are. In indigineous cultures around the world, your True Name has great power and those who know it, can use it for good or ill. If you spend any time with Native Americans of almost any lineage, at some point they'll probably ask you what your Spirit or Real Name is. This is because they want to know more about you as described above.

A True Name is not something you choose or "think up". It is something that is given to you by Spirit as a roadmap to who you are supposed to be. Some people are fortunate to have a clear, personal connection to Spirit that allows them to know their name directly from Source. However, most people will turn to a spiritual leader who has such a connection and request that they find their True Name for them.

In the Lakota tradition, the Medicine Person will pray on the question and seek guidance from Spirit. When the Medicine Person receieves the name, they will then, in turn, inform both the individual and the community of what that Name is in a very particular ceremony.

That is how I received my True Name.

Walking that path is a life-long committment.

      true name=spiritual name

yeah i know what you mean... i was given many names by spirits, and am not sure which is my true identity. These names include; Shroctopus, dodger, and lotus lips....i guess this username could also be considered a spiritual name, as lady salvia introduced it to me.

Not "spirits" but "Spirit".... Big difference. You only have one Name. Everything else is just a label.

      My true name is:

      Spankeh Von Monkeypants.

I find it reflects the shimmering vastness of my spirit.
