      Am I a hypocrite?

Alright, by nature, I am a skeptical person (of god damn everything!) and recently my mother has been going to a hypnotherapist, of whom I've met and have an unfairly biased opinion, for bettering herself. I have never thought much of hypnosis because it's such a "Grey area" and seems subjective from person to person. I simply dismiss it as a false promise and just being told what you want to hear.

However, since being here, I start to question myself. Conditioning myself to lucid dream and keeping a dream journal seems, to me, awfully close to something some hypnotherapist would have me do for this. So am I a hypocrite for dismissing hypnosis while at the same time, dedicating myself to dreaming? And what are your opinions?

      Thanks

P.S. I did a search for this but found nothing either perfectly pertinent or reasonably recent (I did not do that on purpose).

      Well, no...

Let's put it like this... A man believes in God. Do you then assume he believe in say...Krishna? Not necessarily.

On top of that, why would fear of hypocracy stop you from believing in something?
      Bollocks.

I fear hypocrisy for one and only one reason: Consistency

When I disowned faith for science, I feel like I took a vow. A vow to, not blindly. but close, accept anything that then came along. If irrefutable evidence of a soul or the afterlife came along, I would adopt it without question. This sounds really bad - like informational fascism, but I think anyone would know what I mean. It's just like you never see a biomedical engineer wheelin' himself around because he doesn't believe in a polio vaccine.

      I guess that makes sense.

I think the best way to deal with this would be to examine your decision. Luckily, hypnosis is well studied, so you should be able to find some evidence for or against it.

Hmm, sounds to me like its mindset. What you believe is what you believe? And a hypocrite? come on.. we all are no mater what you say.

And as far as hypnosis, well its real. I can do it. Ive hypnotized like 9 out of 10 people. And all it really is, is trust. You have to open yourself to the hypnotizer. Know that he is there for you and is going to take care for you.

And all the hynotizer needs, is your dedication, loyalty and trust.

If these two circumstansis are met, well the rest is easy.

I guess my quarrel with hypnosis is just that some greedy, irresponsible people go way too far with it i.e. (paying for some arbitrary hypnosis treatment of a horrible disease, like a treatable cancer, that can be dealt with more effectively).

When I went to see this hypnotherapist, I honestly backed out and it turned into him and I arguing - I didn't even give him the chance. I guess I am just insecure of my own consciousness.

Hypnosis is magical. And if he is as good as me, then incredible things can be done. I can do anything.

I had someone travel through a maze made of color. Fly through space and travel the universe. Talk to a lost relitive. Fly on a dragon over a war field. Soar over jamaca. See the most buetiful sunset in the world. Zip into space. And so much more.

I dont do anything that they wouldnt want me to do. I actually ask them before hand what they want to experience.

But ive also had someone that does arubics cube, really want to solve it but it weighd 1000 pounds, and he couldnt lift it and, he kept trying haha it was funny.

I also had someone be fond of the tv, and addicted to the show that was on, and the tv get smaller as i stomped my foot, and on the 5th stomp, start flying around the room (the tv) haha funniest thing ever. He kept getting close to the screen, tell he was like touching it with his face then suddenly freak out laying on his back saying omg omg omg looking around the room.

I wanted to test my ability, and didnt tell someone that they were hypnotized and waited about 30 mins, and snaped my fingers, they went back into sleepyland awaiting my commands.

I would say im pretty good, its all about trust, and willingness.

Jabrol, this is a serious thread. Not a place to say how amazing you are.

      Hypnosis isn't magical.

Everyone's a hypocrite in some form or another. You shouldn't worry so much about it. Just try to be a little bit more open to those "Grey areas" in life, and you might find something. In the words of Deepak Chopra, Believing is seeing, not the other way around.

Serious thread for what? People who are skeptical about hypnosis? Well excuse me for saying my 2 cents, maybe changing the way a person thinks. Maybe he only knows of hypnosis as a form to get information locked inside of oneself out, that he doesnt want exposed? And well sure hypnosis can do that, but i want people to know that it is much more, and what a better way to do that then to say what i have experienced? And magical? why is it not? Taking control of another persons subconsious, is normal? elaberate please.

This is a thread for one person. If you want to spread why hypnosis is magical or want to try to argue that point, make a new thread. I will happily argue with you there, but that is not the point of this thread.
      Bollocks.

Probably, since dream control involves learning to focus your attention. From what I can tell, hypnotherapy is pretty much the same thing, but you have a coach. Sure there are some quacks, but I could introduce you to countless medical doctors who are equally bad.

It has potential if used in the right way.
