balancing left/right brain hemispheres through binaural beats

      It's called Hemispheric synchronization

The idea is that we may use one side of the brain more than the other or we use a small portion in general. This technology allows you to optimize the powers of the brain.. Balancing both sides leads to "improved ability in concentration, increased creativity, greater clarity of thought, enhanced access to emotions and heightened states of well-being" among many other things.

      Has anyone tried it?

One program is Kelly Howell's Sacred Ground. There are 4 tracks. Each one you listen to 30 min a day for one week for a total of one month.. I am currently on my second week. I am wondering if I can speed up the process by listening to the track 2x a day, lessening the total to half a month.....

      A bunch of reviews here
Most of them seem to use it just for meditation though. One person mentions a change in them personally
I bought these tapes 7 years ago and they are so good that I am still using them.

I started using them when i discovered yoga and wanted to learn how to meditate. I used these tapes for my first tries at meditation. The information about the tapes talk about "kindling" or moments of high awareness and or clarity and insight. I didn't know what that meant at the time.

I recently picked up the cover again and read the information and realized that I indeed get many moments of kindling that also included some moments of extreme joy but mostly moments of quiet and serenity and many moments of clarity and insight.

These are indeed the effects of meditation that you might be looking for as they were for me.

Meditation can really affect your everyday life and help you create a more effective and fulfilling life for yourself. These tapes are a wonderful, helpful tool to start your meditation practice and to continue it in a different way if you have already tried meditation.

Hi there and welcome to the forums.
I have been using different kinds of Hemi-sync-files for around 2 years now. It definately serves as a great tool for helping with concentration - I have personally been going through a lot of changes in the way I live my life the last 2 years. But whether it is caused by Hemisync or the fact that I found a passionate interest for OBE's, Lucid Dreams, meditation and energy work I can't tell.
I believe H.S. helps and may help motivate me. I have especially listened a lot to the "Gateway-experience" from the "Monroe-institute" and I have done it mainly for achieving OBE's. Later I have realised the other benefits that H.S. gives you, but it is not easy to measure the effect caused by it.

I do think that if you look up Hemi-sync on Wikipedia it will show you some brain-scans showing how the brain is affected during listening to Hemi-sync.

Hey tjuulsgaard :-) Thanks for the response. I just finished the program I'm on since this morning.. I have to agree with you, up till this point, I haven't noticed any distinct changes in my mind, personality etc... I have been meditating since Nov 2009, mostly without any music though, just silence--and I had a lot of strange experiences in the first few months.. Very sporadic. Hearing things at night or things that are hard to explain.. things that don't normally happen in 'reality' but they were very realistic.. The only thing being that my eyes weren't open yet I was fully awake and mobile.
So far the music has been good just to listen to, for meditating. Very relaxing and drowns out everything else. I liked theta the best compared to alpha, delta... When I started using music, my insomnia seemed to get worse and worse but now I am able to use them and feel fine.

I have also tried Insight by Immrama Institute (Ocean waves) and as I was finishing their program, if I laid down while listening, I'd feel these very thin horizontal electrical currents running down my back. I don't know what they are about.

One thing that's surprised me is that I sometimes think about something or look for an answer to something and the next moment I find the answer. Sychronicities like that. For example I was watching a film and after I decided to watch another film related to it.. and when I went on a forum to check on my friend, I found that he had done the exact same thing! The same film and then deciding to watch the other film.
And one other time, when I forgot the name of an architect I needed for research and the next thing I know, I am online and my friend had created a page all about a company he was the head of, writing his name at the top of the page

      I'm really diggin the Hemi-sync.

I just started right in with Theta, since it's the deep trance state... the level of dreaming and hypnosis etc... in other words where the good stuff happens and you get in closer contact with the subconscious.

But then I didn't know you were supposed to start with the higher wavelengths and work your way down.

I definitely notice within a few minutes after I start listening to theta waves my mind calms down significantly... a lot faster than when I just meditate in silence. It's very easy then to shut off the internal monologue and go into a trancelike state. It seems to be a state that would be good for making affirmations... you know, mantras like "Tonight I will have a lucid dream" or whatever.

I notice some Theta files work a lot better for me than others.
