    Back on track!

    Looks like I'm back on track with my dream recall
    Last night I had 6 vivid dreams, wrote them all down! One of them I absolutely adored, I don't know why.
    As usual they're all non-lucid but now that my recall has returned i'll be working on it

    1) I was in CEX, the electronic goods exchange shop. We have one in the town I'm in but it wasn't that one. It was very dark inside, and reminded me of a geeky comic book store or just a general miserable charity shop or something. It might have been light outside, but the curtains were shut so I couldn't really tell. I walked in from the back entrance of the shop. As I walked in, there were aisles of video games, DVDs, etc. on the right side of the shop, and on the left there was the counter. I walked past the counter and suddenly noticed my good friend Alex. Bi on the cashier with another guy who I don't remember, but I knew them. He said something like "Hey Calum! I am DEFINITELY not really drunk ". He said it sarcastically obviously suggesting that he had drunk a lot before work or the night before and was now pretty intoxicated. It made me laugh and I turned around to see his manager very close. I was worried that Alex would get himself in trouble, but the manager obviously heard and was laughing to himself shaking his head jokingly whilst working, so he was clearly quite chilled out. I was jealous of him having such a cool manager. I remembered in the dream that Alex had invited me to a party but I had turned it down for some reason. I apologized for it and thanked him, to which he said it was fine. Then he told me I was shit at prank calling. I can't remember where that came from.

    {Very random dream. I've been quite chatty with Alex recently which could explain his appearance. In addition, he has been organizing an end of college party in the woods for a while which may explain the party. I don't know what the relevance of CEX or prank calling was.}

    2) I read on the news or some other reliable source that the Dalai Lama's brother was dying of cancer. I wikipedia'd it to make sure it was true, and it was. I then asked a man in CEX if it was true, but he claimed he had died 4 years ago from smoking. I finally told my mum, and she wasn't particularly interested.

    {this dream made very little sense. i'm going to see the Dalai Lama do a speech on June the 21st and I told my parents and they weren't particularly interested which I was shocked about, as he is such a powerful religious figure. this might explain why my mother wasn't interested when I told her about his death. I don't understand the obsession with CEX last night.}

    3) It was my birthday, and me and my family were sat in the living room exchanging presents. It was very dark outside and about 6:25pm. However lights were on inside so it was nicely lighted. Like in another recent dream, we had our previous red living room suite instead of our new cream suite. It was quite awkward, as my Mum had bought pretty weird, shit gifts and my Dad who doesn't normally help her pick items thought her choices were very disappointing.

    • The first present was a big combo pack box of various socks and boxer-shorts. I was quite surprised as I normally hate getting underwear for special occasions, but they were actually pretty cool and I like them. One of the pairs of boxer shorts were Berbery patterned, which was awesome! The box was like one of those boxes you get box-set books or DVDs in. It was dark blue. This present wasn't actually the first - I remember there being presents before this, but I can't remember them.

    • Next, I got some pyjama bottoms with Bart Simpsons scattered over it. They were light blue. I get this kind of thing every year - unneeded pyjama bottoms with characters that I thought were 'rad' when I was about 8 years old. I unenthusiastically said "Oh coooooool...Bart Simpson pyjama bottoms..." before exchanging an awkward look at my dad that said "God these presents are shit...".

    • Next, I got some sort of computer program, I think it was a problem solving game where you had to translate Japanese alphabet to English. I wasn't particularly interested in this, but it came with a hiragana/english keyboard which I thought would come in good handy in practising my Japanese. The keyboard was like a traditional old grey block keyboard. The english letters were in regular QUERTY format, and the hiragana characters were under the english letters - you had to use the shift key to use them. I told my parents how I thought the keyboard would be very handy but they didn't really show any interest.

    • I was now given one of those CD-ROMs you get in cereal packets that contain malware-infested shit like wallpapers or buggy games. This time it was various desktop wallpapers of football matches. One of the teams had an orange and black kit on, perhaps wolves? I was very confused about this present, as I have no particular interest in wallpapers or football. But my Mum then explained that the wallpapers were painted by Irvine Welsh, one of my favourite authors. However instead of saying Irvine Welsh she said "Lentin Quoke" - I still understood who she meant, somehow. As soon as she told me I saw a lot of value in the wallpaper. It was very abstract and psychadelic...can't really describe it, but there's a lot of abstract art I look at in reality and it was similar to that. an example of the art is this...

    • The penultimate gift was bigged up as the best present and was meant to be the last, and apparently one of my good friends (who I can't remember) owns one too. It was the only present I recall being wrapped in paper. I unwrapped it, and it was a 4 inch tall action figure of Stuart Little, the mouse from the animated film. However, it looked nothing like it. It was infact one of those skinny rubber bendy men whose limbs you can move, the kinda toy you buy from Hawkins Bizarre. However, it was actually Mike the green thing from Monsters Inc. I thought it was pretty cute and liked it. I started bending it's arms from a folding position to a spread out position, but by the time I finished doing that it was a 6 foot tall furry replica of Sulley from Monsters Inc. I looked away for a while, then when I looked back it was a model of a girl called Bronia in my Philosophy class. It was like a spoony china doll replica of her, now only 3/4 foot tall, and I remember thinking it was incredibly 'hip' and suited my weird personality perfectly. I thought I could stand it in the middle of my bedroom for everyone to see.

    • After the previous present which was supposed to be the last, I was suddenly watching TV. It was a strange video tape of some sort of Disney Princess movie that I think was another present. It was very odd, and gave me the feeling that I was on LSD again. It was accompanied by music, and the strange creature - a red blob - which was supposed to represent a princess was about to jump over a huge chasm. You could hear the instruments doing a crescendo, building up the suspense. I was expecting a perfect cadence to end the short film which was only a matter of two minutes long. However in mid air, the princess just remained in mid air. I was a bit confused, presuming that the video was just skipping or I accidentally paused it. I clicked something on the remote, and the seconds continued to roll on - it was still playing, this was how the video was supposed to be. I figured it was some sort of experimental movie, and started to see value in it.

    After all the presents from my parents, my sister had a couple to give me. However by this time it was 6:31 precisely, and my Mum claimed it was too late and she had to rush off to work that started at 6:30. I was quite annoyed, because there was still some hope in a nice gift from my sister.

    {This was a very, very odd dream. My sister's birthday was recent and we all sat around the living room to exchange presents as we do every year, so I guess that may come from that. Something I found interesting about the dream is that it was 6:25ish, and the only time of the year that it is pitch black at this time is around my birthday (January). Maybe the time of the year affects the weather etc. even in dreams, i'm not sure...}

    4) I was sat in the woods with a boy and my sister. I may have been accompanied by my family but I don't think I was. The boy was either my friend Nick. El or my other friend Marc. Wand. I'm pretty sure it was Nick though. It was around 2pm I think, cloudy outside but still fairly light where the sun was beaming through, nice and warm as well. I recognized where we were sat, I think it was the woodland area on the campus of my secondary school. The boy had a short haired, sandy coloured cute hamster which we were playing with. We started off by playing with it in it's cage (although I don't recall the cage being there) but ended up taking him out and letting him run through our hands, before just letting him walk on the dry dirt. Someone piped up saying it was weird and unnatural putting a hamster on the dirt in the forests, but I mentioned that wild hamsters grow up in the forests so it's hardly unnatural (I don't actually think they do, they might do, but I was fairly confident in my claim in the dream haha!). I then picked the hamster up, and kind of gently pushed his face into a dry, powdery dirt pile. I wanted to make it look like he was burrowing into the ground. He didn't seem to mind, and continued digging for a little bit, shuffling round the dirt. Suddenly, I looked down and the hamster was stood by Nick's leg, and there were 3 to 5 in total!

    5) I was sat in a grey, boring but light exam hall. Instead of the normal auditorium like layout that I usually have college exams in, we were sat alongside each other in a cinema like set up. I was sat with with someone to my right who I think I knew, but not sure who it was - possibly Matt. Cra. We were waiting for everyone to turn up. I was going to be sitting a Music Tech exam, but people around me were doing a large variety of exams. A tall guy who looked like a cross between ex-bass player of Blue Camel Tom. Ho and a guy I met at a party called James. Gy came and sat to the left of me. I didn't recognize him really, just recognized his physicality as someone else. I greeted him and he greeted me. He then continued to criticize the exam I was taking, saying that Music Tech was too easy and not worth doing. I asked him what subject he was doing and he showed me a Maths paper, telling me that universities would value it so much more because it was much harder. I disagreed with this, saying that universities don't really care what subjects you took unless it's a subject specific university, and that all they care about it high grades - therefore I'd be more likely to get an A as it was an easy subject. He seemed to still disagree, but couldn't come back with a counter-argument so kind of muttered and returned to look at his own paper.

    {Strange dream, as they all are really. Only relevance is that I took a Music Tech exam recently. I've also thought that it may have been a bad idea taking less academic subjects as uni's may prefer Maths etc. however I decided otherwise}

    6) I was on a camping expedition in a desert (I think the Sahara) with two others. We had been hiking for a very long time, and we were now approaching our camp site. The area was beautiful - the sun was setting to a breathtaking purple-orange gradient, and we were surrounding by beautiful varying in size sand dunes. It felt like a life changing journey and that we had really accomplished something spectacular. I'm not really sure who the other people I was with were. One of them was my kind of age, and the other was an old man in his late 50's/early 60's. I thought the boy could have either been my good friend American Sam, Matt.P or Will. N, and the old man was my ex-Philosophy teacher John. D. If it wasn't him, then it could have been Hagrid. As we reached the camp site, I was informed that they were camping where we had just arrived and my spot was still a 1 mile walk in the same direction. I was angered and thought it was selfish of the others, but I immediately reminded myself of how beautiful the situation was, and how I needed to appreciate it as part of the experience. We all had very large hiking bags presumably containing water and essentials on our backs, so I told them that I would leave that in their area before hiking to mine, which they were fine with. Thinking about it that made not much sense as I'd have needed water in those conditions. We entered their area, which was a wooden log cabin! I'm pretty sure we were supposed to be camping in low-standard, traditional tribal tents, so I thought this was very odd, especially considering I'd probably be given a tent and be very jealous. We went inside and it was extremely dark, and I just dumped by bag somewhere. I occasionally worried as I snapped back to reality, realizing how crazy it was that I was on an expedition with a friend and an old man thousands of miles from home. I kept telling myself how messed up it was that I was in North Korea, although I'm pretty certain I was in the Sahara or another desert, unless North Korea has deserts? I don't think my parents were aware of what I was doing, which gave me a huge sense of freedom.

    {I really, really enjoyed this dream. It was one of my favourite ever dreams, and I definitely want to revisit the beautiful area when I can lucid dream again}

    EDIT: That was odd...after posting this, I googled North Korean Desert Sunset and foundd this image. It is an almost perfect representation of what I saw last nighht :O

      That desert scene is pretty. It would be nice to see it in a dream...
