Amendments IV, VIII and Section III of Article III of the Constitution

This happened not last night, but about last Friday night. In my dream, I was representing an unknown client in a federal court case. He was a tall black man, an African immigrant presumably from Somalia. He was roughly in his mid 30s, and always seemed like something was bothering him and with good reason.

I do not remember the details, but he had immigrated to America to escape violence in his native country, hoping to start a better life full of peace and prosperity here. He had lived here for at least a decade and had a wife and two kids who had all been born and raised here in the U.S. He worked a full time job and was actually a decent man, went to church and did his best to obey the law.

I don't know what happened, but he ended up having federal charges of terrorism brought against him over something petty. If he was convicted, he'd be subject to capital punishment via hanging (obviously the justice system is archaic, although this is a futuristic dream). A large portion of the country's population was up in arms over it, especially seeing as they had not brought substantial physical evidence to the table, witnesses or a confession.

I remember standing in front of the courtroom, specifically addressing the jury, and defending the man on the grounds that federal law enforcement had broken the man's IV Amendment rights, were on the verge of breaking his VIII Amendment rights, and that their attempts at convicting him were clearly outside the boundaries of Section III of Article III of the United States Constitution. Then, appealing to their emotional side, I began asking them how they would feel if they were in his shoes.

Some of the accusations I made against the feds were based off of racism and predisposed stereotypes of Africans and African American people. I accused them of bringing xenophobia to the table in a sickening attempt to disguise it and use it as "evidence" for his conviction.

I don't know what happened to the man, as I woke up, but this was a rather interesting dream and something I feel may happen in the future. I did not have plans initially to go into Law in university, rather Political Science, but this is something I have been considering.
