Hello all, this is a Dream Control technique concerning movement in a lucid dream that I have been working on. It's very easy to master and should be a good starting point for newbies.
Here's the basis of the technique: When dreaming, distances behave strangely. Crossing a lake or a large field might take hours in real life, but in a dream it can be almost instantaneous. This is because if your intention is to reach a certain destination, it is less work for your brain to simply put yourself at that destination rather than to create the entire journey to that destination. This property of dreams can be used to the dreamers advantage during a lucid dream, which I will discuss in a moment.
Pros: - Very easy to learn
- Much faster than walking
- Good way to learn visualization and other dream control techniques
Cons: - Only allows movement to locations that are visible
- Cannot hop to new locations
Basic Hopping:
When moving about in a lucid dream, always think one step ahead of where you are going. For instance, if you are in a corridor, and want to enter a door at the end of the corridor, start walking towards it, but imagine that you are already there. Visualize the door right in front of you. If you do this properly, you will be standing in front of the door, having crossed the entire corridor instantaneously.
It's important to simultaneously visualize yourself at the destination and have the intention to reach it. The reason hopping is simpler than teleporting is because the destination you're trying to reach is already visible and reachable in the dreamscape. It requires minimal effort to visualize yourself at a location 50 feet away than to visualize yourself at an entirely new location without the dream collapsing.
Advanced Hopping:
Once you've got basic hopping down, these techniques will allow for greater control of movement.
Movement within familiar locations: When dreaming in a familiar location, your memory is often strong enough to allow you to hop to locations that are not visible. For instance, if you are in your bedroom upstairs, and you want to reach the kitchen downstairs, all you need to do is visualize the kitchen and start walking towards the door/stairs and you will find yourself standing in the kitchen.
Hopping to new locations: If you want to reach a location that does not fit with the current schema, you can use this technique. Before you do this, it is a good idea to have mastered the basic hopping technique. First, briefly visualize the location you want to reach and focus your intention on getting there. Next, hop through the current dreamscape until you reach the destination. If you're outdoors, and the destination is indoors, hop around until you see a building and enter it. If you're indoors and the destination is outdoors, hop around until you find a door to the outside and use that. All the while, focus your intent on reaching the final destination. Your mind will change the locations you hop to slightly until they fit the destination you are trying to reach.
The advantage of this technique is that you can reach a new location or create one from scratch without the risk of losing lucidity or waking up that comes with teleporting. The disadvantage is that it is a great deal slower than teleportation.
Well, that's all I have to say. This is my first article, so constructive criticism is much appreciated. Thanks, and good luck!
