I am new at it also and there seems to be different levels of lucidity .My guess is we have the knowledge but need the practice. I think if you exercise your self-awareness wile awake it will be the same self-awareness in the dream. I too have a constant fear (for lack of words) that I will be losing the awareness and I now think that’s because my awareness in general needs to improve. I cannot do a WILD but some of the meditations that are involved are self-awareness techniques. I think I'm going to look into that type of training.
