      Loosing Control?

I've had around a dozen of what I believe to be lucid dreams in my whole life. I was describing this pattern to one of my friends who had some problems with sleep paralysis earlier in his life and he said it sounded like a lucid dream, so after some searching I ended up here.

After having two more recently in my life, I realized that there is definitely a pattern in these dreams. It seems like something always ticks me off that I'm dreaming(in these past someone went to answer a doorbell while we were on a pier, and I noticed a doorknob to a family members closet was on the wrong side of a door). I instantly realized in both of these dreams that these occurrences were impossible and that I was dreaming. It seems like I have control for a really short period of time, and then all of the sudden I loose control of what is happening and my dream spirals out of control into a sort nightmare where a different frightening character appears before me. For every dream that this has happened to me I always seem to resort to screaming in my dream but for some reason I can't and as soon as I realized that I'm not actually screaming I wake up.

Is this normal at all, or is there anything I can do to try and control these dreams for longer without them turning so chaotic?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, thanks!

I haven't heard of such a problem before. I think the best thing to do about it is remind yourself in waking life (through mantra's) that you are in full control of your lucids and that scary things can not harm you.

      Valve:

It could be that you were never in actual control of the dream. It might be less a case of losing control as it was your dreaming mind had great difficulty adjusting to the sudden presence of your waking consciousness in the dream, so it scrambled, literally, for a set of images to fill the content error your presence created. I'm not surprised that negative images surfaced, since they tend to be easier to produce.

If this is true, then this problem will likely go away as your waking awareness wanders into more dreams, and you learn to harness the power of your dreaming mind.

That said, doing the exercise Spyguy notes is still a good idea, as are working on your self-awareness and memory during waking life.
