I never knew what I was doing had a name

I've been controlling my dreams since I was a child. Mostly because I could never get to sleep (huge imagination and lots of scary things to imagine). I started out making dreams up before I went to bed. I would usually go over the same senario for months at a time until I got bored and made up a new one. I would fall asleep and that was that. But this was helping me to control my dreams in the morning. I realized I was dreaming in the morning when I woke up. I didn't want to so I would just continue my dreams making them up as I went. I wasn't dreaming though. Eventually it became easier to go back to sleep and continue my dream I was having and being able to control parts. Then it has gotten to the point of being able to control things.

It's crazy because I usually have about 3 dreams a night. I usually only control the last one. My husband calls my dreams "nintendo dreams" because they are usually crazy and goal oriented. It's great though but I thought there was something wrong with me until I found this site. I can sleep a good 12 hours if I wanted too, but usually get myself up after 8 - 10. It is important to limit how much you spend in dream land.

My favs. are flying of course, and I've now been able to control my movements so I'm not slow and sluggish. I definately have mind power in my dreams. Becoming invisible is also fun.

I'm glad to see that I'm not crazy. Thanks!

Yep, Lucid Dreaming is the best.

You're a very lucky person, being able to control it naturally. I'm trying to learn all this and it's killin' me because I'm not making much progress.

Anyway, take a look around the place: all the tutorials and stuff. They may show you something that you might never have noticed, or something that you'd like to try.

I've heard that your natural ability to lucid dream goes away for some people, so make sure you're still doing it frequently or one day it could be gone! But don't take it from me, there are some major experts around here.

I was the same way! I always made dreams when I was a child then I started controling them. At the time I thought everyone could do it and was doing it but then I found out about Lucid dreaming. I never knew that people had to practice and try to do it until I saw the posts of people not being able to become lucid.

      yeah, pretty freaky

      hey...
this is all so wierd! i didnt know that what i was doing was something special....
i could always remember my dreams since i was a child, and a couple of years ago i started making up "dreams" before i went to bed. They weren't real dreams though, more like imagination. Then once i had a LD I could control, and since then i've been practicing lucid dreaming, without knowing there was such a thing. i noticed with that first dream that i actually was aware i was dreaming, without waking up.
i've gotten pretty good at it too, and it's fun. I just had a LD yesterday, and i told my friend about it, but she didnt believe me, so i looked up "controlling your dreams" in google....this is the sight i found. I'm gonna keep at the LD, because i didnt do much in the first place to get them, and can control whole dreams by now.

      peace

Welcome Choop, Cassiopia, and Dream Walker.

I started out pretty much the same. I started become conscious in my dreams as a kid as a way to deal with nightmares. The more I got used to being conscious, the more I was able to twist my dreams and have fun with them. Everytime I would tell someone about this ability, I'd always get the expression, which is pretty damn annoying. Lol. After a while, it started to go away, because I hadn't kept working at it. But then I started reading that what I was doing was called lucid dreaming, found this site, and have been working on raising my skill level ever since.

Ive Always had amazing dream recall but little control. Every now and then i remember somthing i could semi control (one a year maybe).. I want to lucid really bad! Nothing is working... *sigh* depressing!!

Lucid dreaming is such a tauntingly simple thing to attain...

Your description doesn't sound like lucid dreaming at all.

"Controlling the dream environment" by concentrating on themes/subjects while awake is normal. Anybody can do that. Dreaming is suggestible, and our daily preoccupations will often manifest themselves in dreams...

...but having a lucid dream is another matter entirely.

You know I just had a thought. We all know that the brain chemistry of a child less than 6 years old is significantly different, giving dramatically increased ability to learn such difficult things as languages. Do you think it is perhaps possible to teach kids at this age about lucid dreaming during the time that the brain is much more formable, and make lucid dreaming for the rest of their life much easier? Just a random thought...
