      Help Flying!!

i had my third lucid dream!! i was in a vegas/nightime theme when i realized i was dreaming. everyoone around me got excited and said "he's dreaming!" then i told myself i was going to have sex with this girl but then i remembered that the last time i tried that, i got too much into it and forgot i was dreaming. so i tried flying. i got a running head start for about 4 seconds and told myself "i am going to fly, i am dreaming, this is going to work" but i got very disapointed when all i did was glide for about 4 seconds. i tried 3 more times with the same results. then something happened with the police and i forgot i was dreaming. what did i do wrong?

Congrats on the third lucid! You are still fairly new to lucid dreaming and it is common for beginner's that something does go as planned. You just need to keep trying, stabilize, and experiment with different techniques. You didn't really give a bunch of detail on how you flew so I don't know what you did wrong. I recommend you check out my flying guide (link in my signature.) It should help a lot! Good luck

Haha! Well congratulations again on the lucid! When you get lucid just stop for a moment and look around. Tell yourself it's your dream, your world and you can do anything. Then run and jump and just expect the air to lift you up!

Try doing this next time you decide to fly:

Get a running start, jump, and look up/ahead. Don't look at the ground or downwards, but instead, try to feel yourself in the air. Sometimes people tend to go in the direction they're looking. If you can glide, then you're halfway there however. I've found when I was first starting out, that simply not looking at the ground, but rather where I wanted to go, I was able to maintain the flight much easier. Not that I've had too much trouble with it before, but it was easier to just focus on the destination rather than the initial lift off.

There really is no right or wrong way to do things however. Everyone has their own style. Some people, such as myself, can simply jump up in the air and go from there, others need to run and jump, and others still need to jump from something high (which isn't a bad idea if you know you're dreaming. It's fly or die at that point).

I think if you expect it to wake you up, it will. Do you remember in The Matrix when Neo falls down bounces off the world like a trampoline? If you find yourself falling, I would probably think about that so you wouldn't get hurt / wake up from the dream.

So I had a semi-lucid dream last night, and actually did a little flying and learned something about my technique since I was paying attention:

When I fly, as I said above, I tend to just jump into the air and feel myself going up higher. However, when I want to change direction, I slow myself down (through just will power), and then turn the direction I want to fly, and I "push" off of the air sideways (like you would a wall) and propel myself forward, as if I'm pushing off of a solid object. This tends to get me going at a good speed in the proper direction. When I reach a building or something and want to stop quicker, I simply turn so that I'm half-way flying backwards, put my feet out, and as I make contact with the wall, bend my knees, and then I effectively "stick" to the wall until I want down.

That's my technique in a nut shell, which is still fresh in my mind from my semi-lucid dream last night (I say Semi-lucid because I knew I had full control.. just wasn't sure why lol).
