      Help with Flying

Last night, after months of practice, I had my first prolonged lucid dream. Up until this point, I had only become lucid long enough to watch my dream fall apart around me as I awoke.

But last night, I managed to keep my excitement minimal and I stayed in the dream. The first thing I did, as a test so to speak, was try to fly since I had read previously how this can be attained and that it's often something people want to do in lucid dreams.

So as I had learned, I began to jump up and down, and with each jump I progressively got higher until I was maybe 50-100 feet in the air and I simply hovered. It was exhilarating, but I quickly realized something: now that I was hovering in the air, I didn't know how to move.

I tried swimming motions, I tried a superman-esque pose, but I simply continued to hover in the air. I had to resort to "drifting" to a ledge that was maybe five feet away instead of simply flying wherever I wanted to go and from there proceeded to go about my dream on foot.

From those who have done it and know, how do I actually fly? How do I go about moving myself once I am in the air?

There's not really a technique to teach you how to fly, but you just have to KNOW you can fly. It helps me to think, "This is a lucid dream. I can do anything I want!"
I guess if that doesnt work, try visualizing it? I usually don't have a problem flying, but for you, the best thing that would work if the first option doesn't is thinking of a different place, (If you wanted down)
or think of a reason you SHOULD be flying.

I had sort of the same problem with this too, briman007. When you're having trouble with controlling something, switch it up, try a different way of visualizing it (which you did, so good job).

The one that works magic for me is imagining an invisible platform up against my feet (when I'm in the superman pose), and it pushes me through the air. I can get a lot of speed with this technique, because the thing propelling me is very powerful, I don't have to imagine that I'm exerting any kind of force. The force is behind me.

Other people like to imagine that they're being pulled in by something. You could try focusing on an object in the distance and feel a pull towards it.

This is the only reason you couldn't move.
I know I've repeated this a few times on different posts, so I'm sorry for sounding like a parrot.
In your dreams the laws of physics are bound by what you know. If you know that you can fly around with no problem, you can. If you know that you lack the knowledge how, you do. If you know that you know, then you do.
In order to fly all you have to do is KNOW that you can. Just do it, and expect it to happen.
---o--- my DCs say I'm dreamy.

I used to have a problem flying. And then after months of practice I can do it now.

Try to imagin yourself flying. Or say I will fly, I will fly. Maybe that will help.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

I have used a few methods, of course none of them work 100% of the time....

      1) Imagine a rocket underneath your feat pushing you up

      2) pretend up is down - this works for me indoors, I can fly down a hallway by almost adjusting what i feel is up and down

      3) Associate a video game controller with it...for instance I use Second Life and in the world/game you use Page up key to fly, once in awhile picturing hitting the page up button will allow me to fly.

but if anyone has full proof way i would love to hear it, flying consistently always has been an issue for me
