Why is it so hard for me to change scenery?

I realized I was in a dream last night, and i kept on getting sleep paralysis thru the night. And I was running after my dog in the dream and all of the sudden I was like, wow this is a dream, so i calmed down, rubbed my hands together, even though i didnt see my hands, it just turned to darkness, and i saw an outline of my hands in darkness rubbing together, and then I went back into the dream within .5 seconds and i started flying really high up, so as i was flying i kept trying to think of a nice sunset and and some mountains, and i got a really blurry photo of a sunset and it looked like garbage.. i got mad in lucidity because this always happens, i have a great imagination but i cannot make things out in the dream to be as I want them to be. help me please! thanks a lot.

Hmm you can create an incredible adventure fighting dragons, flying Jetplanes, sunsets and mountains but you can't expect it to be perfectly detailed because the brain is not capable of creating all that.

Why do you think our reality checks works, for example why can't text be stable in dreams and hands look normal? Probably because of the limited brain.

However it would be contradictory to say that because our dreams are also controled by our expectations...

But the easiest way to make manifestations like this in the dream would probably be the usage of passive dream control. Instead of completely control the dream with your conscious mind let the unconscious part of the part take over a bit. You can for example try the Universal Remote Control in your dream Click Trailer - YouTube
Or try the Matrix operator way of doing things - Operator I need a Sunset - can you fly that helicopter - YouTube
I have also heard about a pocket method for smaller things that people on DV use. Expect something to be in the pocket and then just get it.

Perhaps not exactly like that but you get the idea, state your intent in something that we trust and let the dream take care of it.

Try it out and see how it goes.

Moved to dream control. And MasterMind made some good points. Passive dream control works a lot better for things that need a lot of effort to do. Instead of just visualizing the sun coming up, just tell yourself "hey I bet the sun is gonna come up soon", and really believe it. It's the same way with summoning a DC, instead of trying to make them pop out of thin air, it's best to tell yourself that they'll knock on the door in a few seconds, and it'll have a higher success rate. Last but not least, try not to get frustrated. You have a better chance of losing focus, and ruining a great dream which may have had only one minor flaw.

Your past experiences have told you that you can not do these things. And you're starting to believe this. But why can't you do these things? There isn't a single thing within the dream that can be limiting you. You're limited only because your past experiences have created the expectation of being limited. You're limited because you say you're limited. That's the only reason. Stop acting as if you can't do these things because you bloody well can do them.

Sometimes things just don't work the way you want them to. Accept it and look forward to your next attempt. It doesn't matter if you fail a task 10 times in a row. Repeated failures don't mean something is preventing you. Basic dream control is all about preventing yourself from creating negative expectations.

In real life doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is insanity. In a dream doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is good dream control.

Try turning around 180 degrees and expecting beautiful scenery (or an object behind you).

I beg to differ...I can read, watch tv, etc just fine in lucids, even normal dreams. I am not sure if I am just special, but I have no issue with it. Just last night I was able to watch tv for over 2 minutes, without any worries..of course it was just commercials, but still. I have never tried writing tho, guess I'll put this on my list of lucid goals, but reading works great

I have become quite interested on the layers of lucidity, and I use them to measure how lucid a dream is. For more information on these layers, click here.

Then there is hope after all But I agree sometimes those reality checks doesn't work...
One time I even looked myself in the mirror and except for my teeth being displaced, My face looked completely normal, so there is hopefully no limit to the dreaming mind.

I have had dreams where I looked in the mirror and saw my reflection. I was looking in the mirror because I felt like my teeth were falling out and I watched in horror as they all fell into my hands lol.

Speaking of mirrors, a great way to change scenery is to look into one, decide what scene you want to be in, make it happen in the mirror and walk into it. This works with any size mirror. I fit no matter what in my dreams lol. It also works with door ways, decide that if you walk through it, you will be somewhere else. I have some issues with making things exactly how I want but I blame it on the fact that my mind is constantly reeling and thinking about a million things at once so it is hard to have the focus to make something EXACTLY how I want it. It takes a few tries. If you read my DJ entry, I made a magnificent sword in my dream last night but it took me several tries to get it how I wanted it to look. Control has a lot to do with focus, that is my problem because I am all over the place lol
