      Am I a lucid dreamer?

I am so very glad that I stumbled upon this website. I have been wonder what has been going on with me for a while now. I ask other people if they experience what I do when I sleep and most do not. My husband says that it has happened to him a few times but not often at all. My dreams seem so real, even though I am aware that they are dreams. I have some pretty crazy dreams most of the time, most of them not scary. Nearly every single night I go to sleep and dream like crazy. If I wake up, I am able to go back to sleep and continue my dream when I left off. This happens almost every time I wake up. Sometimes even when I know I need to wake up to begin my day, I don't want to because I want to go back to sleep, and finish my dream. I am also able to remember nearly all of my dreams when I wake up. I don't always remember my dreams forever, however there has been several dreams that I had many, many years ago that I am still able to remember. For instance when I was younger, I always had a reoccurring dream about going off a cliff in the car without my seat belt on... Somehow I knew if I would just buckle my seat belt before I hit the ground that I would live. It would be so hard for me to buckle my seat belt but I would most of the time be able to buckle it right before I hit the ground. Sometimes I would wake myself up before I could finish the dream by jumping and scaring myself. I haven't had this dream in many years but I still remember it. I am going to get a journal and start writing my dreams down when I wake up. Am I a lucid dreamer?

      Welcome to the site!

If you ever questioned yourself "Am I dreaming?" in a dream and realised you're dreaming then you're a lucid dreamer.

But from your description, it seems like you have really vivid dreams and you have a strong recall too. That's definitely going to aid you in lucid dreaming. You mentioned you're able to continue where you left off in your dreams even after you wake up, I think that's actually a really good technique to get into a lucid dream too since you already know it's a dream you're going to enter into.

Do get a dream journal soon or you can start one here too.

It sounds like you might have a bit of a natural ability to lucid dream. A lucid dream is where you are aware you are dreaming while in a dream. You said you are aware you're in a dream while it's going on so I would say you have a natural gift. A lot of people like you are on Dreamviews. They just lucid dream all the time. Remember that being able to control the dream and being lucid are different things. You can learn to control your dreams once you're lucid though!

Good luck with recording your dreams and learning how to control them! Some links you should check out:

Everyone is a lucid dreamer, but few take notice of their ability.

You are already off to a great start and your story has reminded me of the most important concept of lucid dreaming. That is to always keep a loose grip on your expectations.

This community is probably the greatest resource I know of for a dreamer like you, welcome!

If you are aware of that fact during the dream, then yes, you are a lucid dreamer. There are thousands of us, and we're all here to support you. Welcome.
