      Lucid dream

So last night i had a lucid dream after 5 nights of trying. It started out as a normal dream. i was walking and pinched myself to see if i was dreaming. I did it a few more times and i realized i was dreaming. I tried to show my friend but nothing i tried worked. It was just a normal dream and when i became lucid, it just continued on. It was vague and not really exciting. Why wouldn't anything work? Also it only lasted a minute, how can i make it last longer and become more vivid?

Congratulations on having your first lucid dream! You did not have any real control because your lucidness level was very low. It can vary, and the more lucidness you have the more clearly you think about what you do and the more you can control your surroundings. First few lucid dreams often look like you described.
I'd say read articles about dream stabilization and dream control - this forum has great guides for both things.
I wish you success in your training

It is very normal for the first few lucids to be unstable or mundane. Just think of it as your first taste of the lucid world. It will take a few tries to be comfortable in it, and once you do that, you'll be more confident in doing and making things happen with your mind. A good thing to do is to learn how to stabilize the dream to make it last longer and prevent it from falling apart. http://www.dreamviews.com/attaining-...-tutorial.html

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

Congratulations! To make your dreams last longer, practise your awareness in waking life and apply it to your dreams. I've found that the best way to have vivid dreams is simply to be more aware of them using all of your senses!
