Getting rid of a re-occuring dream character

Lately in my dreams there has been a friend that turns up in my dreams, and I don't really want them in my dreams anymore. In my next lucid im going to try to tell them to go away. But has anyone got any ideas to make a dream character extinct from your dreams.

In most theories of dream interpretation, the characters in your dreams are parts of you.

Characters may symbolize parts of yourself that you reject.

If you can interpret what aspect of yourself is symbolized by this person, and accept it as part of yourself, then you would likely stop dreaming of them.

(Probably not the answer you were hoping for....)

I have been through this and have indeed 'gotten rid of them'. Before bed I made a commitment to confront them and that was all it took

Dont forget you are dealing with your own mind here so intent should be enough aswell.

Yea, I have interpreted the dream and I am pretty sure its an accurate interpretation. I think it will require me developing some self dicipline, sorry I can't expand anymore on the situation.

Actually, the trick in this regards is to get up and excuse yourself and leave. If the Mountain does not come to Mohamed, then Mohamed will go to the Mountain. If a Dream Character is bothering you, well, isn't it easier if you are the one who leaves.

This is particularly easy if you have the ability to Fly or Levitate within a Dream. It is one of the Rules of Lucid Dreaming that ordinary dream characters lack the ability to Fly or Levitate. It is one way to sort the Wheat from the Chaff, to get up and Fly away. Only the Highest and Most Evolved of Dreamers and Spiritual Entities would be able to follow.

Thats a good idea. But the thing is when I'm in the dream I can't control my urges and I want to stay with them. It is a girl that I liked a long time ago, but I don't want her appearing in my dreams anymore. Also I just wanted to add I have been in dreams before where I have tried flying away from a dream character who was physically out to get me only to see they were right underneath me flying as well. Was a pretty scary dream.

      Kill him!

About that... in just about all my dreams I have this 'precence' of some people. Sometimes it is family, some times it are my friends. But very often there is Some one there too.

I have a recurring dream character that I actually use as one of my dream signs to become lucid. It's a guy from my old high school who I had a huge crush on, but never saw again after leaving school. That's why I always know I'm dreaming when I see him.

He pops up in my dreams pretty often and I always seem very nervous around him. I wouldn't mind being rid of him because I feel like it's dream-cheating on my husband in a way. But then I'd be losing a very reliable dream sign...

Each reoccurance gives the returning dream character strength. Why? Here's an example.

Do not think about pineapples. If you think about pineapples I swear, I will kill a kitten. And I'm psychic so I know that you will think about pineapples.

I bet you thought about pineapples. And possibly kittens. If you dwell on an unwanted character, I think it will keep coming back. The same way that trying to force anything out of your mind causes it to stick there.

Strange way of putting it ,but yes, the more you dwell on something the greater the likelihood you will again.
So don't consider the DC to be of any importance. Shrug them off.
I like Leo's advice about leaving too.

well Gothlark got rid of the last unwanted DC for me

seriosuly, I kept dreaming about this ruddy bald vampire and he said he'd try to share a dream with me and destroy him for me

course I don't believe in any of that shared dream poop, but when he told me he had a dream about a vampire and killed it, I never dreamt about it again

never underestimate the powers of Placebo

I think Ophelia gave a very nice example, you need to give your mind an excuse for not bringing up that character again. Telling it to go away is forcing it, you'd rather have your mind just stop thinking about it. The excuse doesn't have to be logical, anything will do, as long as it can, by a stretch of the imagination, be used as a reason for not seeing the DC again. I like Leo's method a lot, that seems like an easy and effective way.

everytime you see him just force him into the ground...and continue your lucid dream without him...after a while maybe he'll shutup, and leave you alone.

They arn't doing anything wrong, not hassling me, it's me that wants to stay with them. Also it's a girl not a guy.

What worked for a nightmare character I had once - I just laughed at them. They looked confused, and then exploded.
Maybe that'll work here as well.

Well, if a Dream Character is able to follow you in Flight then this indicates that the Dream Character is expressive of a Spiritual Conflict that your Higher Dream Self insists that you must face. You see, Dreams are ulitimately intended as tools for our necessary social and spiritual development. Every stage of Passage and Maturity through which we go in Life has its accompanying and supportive Dreams. So, in a practical sense, some dreams, and some interactions with certain Dream Characters may not entirely be optional. Well, I guess we always have a choice, but it may be a matter where if we really do decide not to deal with some Dream Issues, any further Progress may then be barred to us.

anyway, if a Dream Charcter can fly away with you, I would see this as a matter for insistence, and such a Dream Character should be dealt with and not avoided. Or perhaps, as with your particular dream, where you described it as your being able to stay just above this dream character's pursuit, the meaning may be that you need to fly higher in order to avoid the problems in your Life and Spiritual Quests.

Well heres a few things that i would do :

      1) if you have enough dream control just use your mind and make him spontanious combust

      2) if you have enough dream control make him go insane somehow

      3) if you have enough dream control make him just blow up

      4) if you have enough dream control torture him somehow

      5) scare the living daylights out of him and threaten to kill or hurt him

      6) be really mean to him example : DC : I thoght i would find you here! You : GET AWAY FROM ME I HATE YOU ect... ect...

      7) make him think you are dead example : jump off a cliff and at the last minute hover above the ground making him think you are dead

      8) tell him to get something for you that dosn't exist ( don't create what you want him to get ) example a dog with 6 legs 4 eyes ect...

      9) get him to do something that will take along time example build me a 5000 story house with 463 hot tubs 123 indoor pools 987 outdoor pools then sneak off to a place where he won't find you

      10) drop an anvil on his head

      11) stab him shoot him light him on fire ect...

      12) hang him

      13) use mind control and make him jimp off a cliff ect...

      14) light his house on fire

      15) just shout BURN and turn the world into a living fireball

      ect.. ect...

      m/ (>.<) m/

I think I finally got rid of a re-occuring dream character!

I used to always have dreams about a guy I went to high school with. I had a crush on him for the longest time, and we were good friends but never dated. After leaving school, he would always show up in my dreams - I think he represented the perfect guy in my dreams, because I was always trying to impress him in my dreams and if we were ever together at all, I'd wake up disappointed that it was just a dream. I actually made him one of my dream signs because he showed up so often.

Well, the last time I've seen this guy in real life must've been about 8 years ago. That's more than enough time to let him go. Plus, I'm married now so I always felt guilty after dreaming about him.

The other night, I dreamt I met him for dinner. But this time he didn't appear as I remember him at school, but older (and not as attractive). I remember admitting to him in my dream that I had a crush on him and always dreamed about him, but now meeting him after all this time and seeing how he is now, I think I can give it up. Then he tried to take advantage of me and I ran away back to my husband.

After I woke up, I felt like this was a breakthrough dream - and I'm relatively confident that I will never see him in my dreams again. It's just funny that I have this feeling. I guess all I needed was to confront him about it in my dream and get closure.

      Just felt like sharing that.

Kill him in the dream. It's easy, without any thinking whatsoever. You are not doing anything wrong since you are aware of your dreaming state.
