Darn me and my feeble willpower!

I can only very rarely take reign of my dreams, even when I'm lucid.

If I want to fly, I can only glide, and such things like that.

Do the fine people of this website know of any technique or study on the focusing of one's mind, during a dream? I'm unfortunately stuck with a computer that is incapable of using search engines (nasty virus, long story), watching videos, and basically any multimedia device to do the searching myself.
No kidding, and it's getting annoying at this point, lol.

I'll be on tomorrow, so maybe reply to this, or, I dunno, look at my dream journal, maybe even go to sleep, or go to another website or somethin'.

      I'm tired, so goodnight all.

      Absolutely!

      I'm good at this.
      Don't try to fly.
Just fly. You CAN do it, if you know that you can.
There ARE laws of physics within dreams, but they are different from the waking world.
They are based on your thoughts. Your brain controls everything in a dream.
What you think, is true. If you think that you might not fly, you might not.
In fact, the more you care... the deeper your concern that you might not fly, the more likely you are to fail in your attempt. Even if you tell yourself that you can do this, you might not, if you have a small sliver of doubt about it.
You have to be POSITIVE that you can do this, and you should be, because you CAN. I promise you.
Don't have any doubt. Know that you can do it.

When you are about to fly, EXPECT it to happen. Be surprised if it doesn't.

If this doesn't work, DEMAND that it happens. Get !$#% off and shout out your intent..

Finally, if all else fails, trying IMAGINING it happening. Pretend it's happening. You'd be surprised at how much of an effect it has.
Be careful when using this method though. Many times, when I use this method, it causes the integrity of my dream to degrade, because now, instead of dreaming, you are just imagining it. Use it in short bursts, and you should be fine though. I've found this to work VERY well, even if it does come at a price. Perhaps you can imagine yourself flying upwards, and breaking the barrier that is holding you to the ground.

I had the same problem for a long time. I hovered a few feet over the ground. When I tried to fly, I would actually drop to inches above the ground. I used to think, 'What's going on!?' because I was so use to free flight. It was a strange sensation to not be able to fly. Flying would also be bumpy for some reason...
Anyway, I overcame this problem with these methods.

The bottom line is that you have to remember that you CAN do it.
      Just do it.

I didn't know that Self Help Guru Tony Roberts has an account on DreamViews! Rofl, just kidding.

Your Ideas intrigue me, Mr. Sloth, and I think I might have worked it out because of your help.

I think I shall use a new, albeit not perfect method.

Because my thoughts and dreams are fairly realistic when it comes to physics, if I can't shake the thought of not flying from my head, I can just tell myself that I'm in Space.
If I can't fly right away in a dream, I'll instead just kick off of a wall or tree or another solid object and float my way there!

]There is a margin of error though. If I use this thought too much, I may have my dream body think that the only way TO fly is to kick off of a wall... but then again, you never know.

I'll try your idea first, and if that doesn't work, and I'm still lucid enough to do it, I'll try my idea.

Why not put this topic to good use and have other people describe their problems with focus and/or dream related things.

You're certainly on the right track, by trying different approaches. I never thought of kicking off of a wall, and floating.

      I like your idea.

It is true that your mind could get 'stuck' using this method as the only way to fly. Something similar happened to me. For a little while, when I couldn't fly, I would move my arms like I was swimming. It worked well at first, but the higher I got, the harder it was, and my mind did get stuck using this way of flying.

It is possible to break this habit later, though. Don't be afraid to do whatever you have to to make that happen. I was able to, after quite some time, reconvince myself that I didn't have to do this swimming motion to fly. The only time I have trouble flying now, is in some of my non-lucid dreams.

Keep it up, sir. You CAN fly. Know that you can.

I think your belief does have a lot to do with it as sloth said.
Intention and faith might play a lot into the physics and manipulation of your dreams.

But one thing that seems to work for me is a loud vocal command.

If I wanted to fly, I'd stomp my feet, jump up, and shout the command "Fly".

The more I'm willing to think it'll happen, the more often it does.

Well, I tried it out last night (Yay Lucid!) and both Ideas worked with ups and downs

Mr. Sloth's idea of shouting it out was pretty good, because I was waiting in line (In dream) for some kind of thrill ride, and there was a mountain range in the distance. I thought, "how boring," and I was getting kind of heightophobic, so I commanded myself to fly to that mountain range. I did fly, but my brain was saying "You can't," and I had to glide back over to the spot in line. I then thought about me being in space, and kicked off the banister, and it worked, but I never landed at the mountain range, I landed on an oceanic island where a yacht picked me up, it stormed, then I kicked off to land, but missed again.

My findings show that commanding myself to do it does work, but I have to get around my thought of physics, and that space-flying (I'll call it that hence forth) works almost too well... overshooting all my targets.

Maybe if I can combine the best of both, I can work it out that way. I'll kick off of something, even just sort of Superman dive to start, and then I'll will myself to the ground. That'd probably be easier than willing to fly, because I'd be going back to what my dreaming mind percieves as correct physics. What IS correct physics.

Might as well keep the topic going, so anybody who has a problem with such things along the lines of willpower and focus, just write down your problem, I guess.

P.S.: Swimming was how I got around a long time ago!

I'm glad that you got your first taste of flying.

I will say this much though. Everything that you tried, that worked, probably worked because you felt beforehand that they probably would. And that word, "PROBABLY", is most likely why it didn't work all the way... Because there was still that shread of doubt.
I promise you, on MY HONOR, that if you are totally, and completely convinced that you CAN fly correctly, you WILL.

And you SHOULD believe that you can, because you CAN. Think of the logic. Your dreams are controlled by your brain. Your brain is controlled by you.
Your dreams are controlled by the thoughts and feelings you have. Let go of worry and doubt.

      Mark my words...
