Ok, I was wondering today if it would be possible to learn new talents through LDs? For an example: Get someone like Kurt Cobain to appear in your dreams and teach you how to play the guitar like a god...but still remember everything you learned when you wake up? Has anyone tried something like this?

I have heard of something like this before.

Apparently some people have been able to practice things like ice-skating martial arts and even meditation while dreaming and found it improves their ability in waking life.

I think it only goes for skills you have already learned while awake though.

That is, I don't think you can, say, learn to fly a plane in the dream world and then take those skills into the waking one.

Never managed to do it myself but it's a goal.

I was thinking this myself, except in the sense of expanding my intellectual horizons. i.e. study up in a fabricated library with teachers such as Isaac Newton, Galileo, Steven Hawking, Jesus, Friedrich Nietzsche, Nikolai Kardashev, Olaf Stapledon, Ghandi, and Hitler.

      Especially Hitler....

No i doubt you can, but you should try.

I agree with alban, it doesnt make sense to learn stuff in your dreams because your dreams are made up of past experiences and your own imagination. So i wouldnt think you can learn things that other people would possibly know. I guess you could learn from Kurt in your dreams but you would be learning what your imagination tells you. Besides why would you learn from Kurt Cobain when there are better guiter players... LOL

you can get better at things with dreaming because when you're dreaming anything you do has the same effect on your brain as if you were doing that thing in real life.

Well, Lol I was using Kurt Cobain as an example. Supposedly though, your spirit knows everything, so maybe your dream will be able to teach you everything you would want to know?

To get better at a thing like a guitar you would need to know the notes and then you could practice songs.

I have heard from many sources that this is true, although I haven't tried it enough to testify one way or another. The theory goes that you are accessing things that your subconscious remembers but your conscious doesn't, so instead of learning, you're really transferring access from sub-conscious to conscious. As for how you get better at physical things like martial arts and sports, your muscles twitch during REM, and those twitches correspond to your dreams. Thus, you can build muscle memory in dreams.

I don't think the sub-conscious/conscious part has been proven, but the muscle part has been. Stephen LaBerge did experiments where volunteers moved their eyes in a set pattern in a dream when they became lucid, and these were observed to be the correct sequences. but it sounds more then plausible and because I am convinced that it is possible to learn in dreams, so I buy into this theory.

Hope is a waking dream. -Aristotle

It's said that human's use less then what? 10% of their brains? Who's to say what kind of stuff your subconscious can tap into.

i.e. being psychic, tapping into a supreme "fountain of knowledge" left behind by the greatest minds... god, the possibilities are beyond comprehension.

if you want someone to teach you to play guitar like a god...id suggest you look elsewhere than kurt cobain.

if you accept the notion that during LDs we are accessing the astral planes of existence and given the rather believable factors of universal conciousness id say you have access to all the information there is, like the internet, so to speak...its all about how much you can access. consider all the insane things your mind can conjure up in a dream, you can visit places and people youve never seen or known of, you gotta be getting that info from somewhere!

I am actually researching some of this and have some ideas on how to apply it. I am fairly certain some of this is possible, but there are requirements, at least in my opinion.

Send me a message if you want to try to help me with my research on this.

Excatly if you know the basis of the skill like all the notes, I'm sure you can learn. But if you were to like in your dream never know anything about guitars you could never learn how to play. You dont just figure out new things in dreams. And art vandely if you have ever heard of the imagination.

Hmm I don't know. I suppose if you could access your sub-conscious then you would learn a heck of a lot. Also in dreams sometimes, time has no meaning. I have had dreams that "lasted" a couple of days. Now I didn't experience all of these days. But if you practiced whatever for a long time, I suppose you could build skill. You could probably also build muscle memory.

Yes this is completely possible. Dreamed actions have a real affect on the body allowing you to rehearse skills. You can do the same by just thinking about doing the skill, as many sports phychologists will tell you.

Every little thing your brain sees and takes in is recorded into something infinite called 'Memory'. Memory is amazing, but at the same time frustrating because EVERYTHING is recorded into it. Whether you remember the digits of 'Pie' after reading 1000 of them just once or not, its recorded into your subconscious and can later be tapped into and be brought forward allowing you to recall that specific string of memory. I've researched alot into memory and how it works in human beings, and its quite fascinating. I myself have been able to improve my memory two-fold simply by understanding how it works and tweaking my study habits to take advantage of the process.

What does any of this have to do with the subject? Well, if 'Enema' has ever watched Kurt Cobain's fingers while he was playing guitar, those movements were recorded into his subconscious, and are there waiting to be tapped into. A dream allows you to explore your subconscious and therefore he wouldn't necessarily need to know the notes/songs if he wanted to learn in dream, he would simply need to find how to recall that memory in his dream, and it would be as if Kurt was right there with him. I've never tried anything like this in dream simply because i have horrible dream recall and wouldn't be able to remember a damn thing i was taught while sleeping! But i seriously advise you to not give up on this, if you work hard enough at it, and can find the right string to pull, you can learn.

Yea, I think that if we can remember our dreams, then we can remember what we learned in them. It all seems very possible. Lol I was using Guitar skills as an example, I can already play the Guitar fairly well.

I practiced my AP American speech in front of my class in my ld a few nights ago and today when I delivered it I wasn't nervous and the speech was flawless.

I think you would have to have at least some previous knowledge. I'm gonna use the guitar as an example too. I play guitar. I'm not the best guitarist in the world, I play many instruments but not amzingly so. However, I've dreamt of me just playing guitar and making up songs. I have some little pieces I like to play that I've dreamt before. Then again, I already knew a little guitar.
