It has happened two times in my lucids now:

First I become lucid and everything is great but then shortly the light goes away, progressively, and soon I find myself in complete darkness, entirely lost . Last night when I still had some light left I asked one of my DCs if he could lit the place up but he didn't respond. Then I yelled something like "INCREASE LIGHTNESS NOW". But it didn't work either... And soon my dreamscape was completely dark and I woke up.

Two times now... I need to stop this! Any suggestions?

Hi BohmaN. This subject has come up before, and from the anecdotal evidence, it would seem to be fairly common.

I'll repeat what I wrote before: I have an LD friend who started to have problems with the "blackness". The light levels in her LDs would fade away until everything was completely black. She would then wake herself up. Having previously had similar problems myself, she asked me what I thought, and I told her that maybe she should use this blackness in a positive way: by just "sitting down" and concentrating on fixating and refixating her lucidity over-and-over again, by using the "looking at the hands" RC, which we both use BTW.

So.. the next time that it happened to her, she just sat down and practiced looking at her hands over-and-over, for a seeming 15 minutes or so of realtime. The result? Over a period of time, her control and lucidity soared to new heights, with all the practice she did. Why I think that it works so well is that, in the "blackness" there are no distractions to make you forget that you're LDing, such as DCs, weird scenarios etc etc. You can just concentrate on the task in hand without any distractions.

Anyway.. like I said, the subject has come up before, so you're definitely not alone on this one.

      All the best.

Two things that have worked for me with the old blackness stage are:

      1. Opening my "dream eyes", as if the blackness was caused by them being closed. I did this once and actually found myself in a pretty visually vivid dream.

      and

      2. Picking a scene (like a forest or beach, or a city or something) and visualizing myself driving into the dream in a car. I did this in the black stage and I did actually drive into a forest exactly as I planned to, even if I did lose luciditity seconds

      Thank you for your replies!

Onerio I like your idea But, if everything is entirely black, how can you see your hands? Or will they appear if I try enough? And then the darkness will go away eventually?

I'll try this one too, seems like it could work

A question: will dream spinning work if your dream is in complete darkness?

You will see your hands in the blackness if you sit down and concentrate enough.

I'm not a fan at all of dream spinning... it's too arbitrary, and often doesn't work.

There are many ways of overcoming darkness. When my dreams are dark I'm usually on the move trying to get outside to some light area.

Sometimes I shift to another location to escape the darkness.

Trying to control the light levels directly never worked too well for me, even though once I physically pulled the sun from beyond horizon... It turned night into evening

Once I tried an interesting way of overcoming darkeness - dark/night vision - it was still dark, almost pitch black, but I could see anyways. Kinda hard to describe. The main colors were purple and dark reds/blues.

A few times opening my eyes in the dream increased the light levels significantly...

hey...i'v been dreaming(lucid) for 13 years. humans are strange.arent they? you know, you dont have any problem. do not think about it my friend. do not say it every time u want to talk about your dreams. be your self. things like this have happened to me before.stay calm...stay calm.remember every time that u fear of the bad future(future in your dreams),that bad future will come and happen.when u are dreaming that the darkness is taking over u, say to yourself this:THIS IS MMMMYYYY DREAM,NOTHING IS HERE BUT MMMMEEEE, I AM CREATING THESE SCENCES SO THEY ARE MINE,EVEN TTTHHHAAATTT SWEET DARKNESS,THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO SEE.STAY CALM.............STAY CALM.............STAY CALM..................................

You must tell yourself that "This is my brain, I control it all", and to visualize what you'd like to see in front of you. I've had success with this in the past when everything went balck
