      Losing my balance when lucid

      Hello,

This is a repeating problem for me. Whenever I realize I'm dreaming I loose my balance and have problem keeping on my feet. I've tried spinning and rubbing my hands to counter this. But it doesn't work. I always end up falling and either loosing my awareness of the dream or waking up.

Typical example: Like this night I was having a wonderful dream where I had just spent some time making out to a girl. I was standing in my bathroom thinking about the wonderful girl laying in my bed upstairs. Then I thought to myself: «This is the kind of situation it would make sense to do a reality check even though I'm 100% sure I'm not dreaming» (Those dreams always seem so real, hah) . I did a nose RC. Result - positive? «I can't believe it. I can't be dreaming!» Once more - positive once again. «OK, so I'm dreaming... what to do? I'll go outside. Have some fresh air. Haven't tried that before.»

But immediately after stepping out side my front door, I start raving about. No balance at all. I end up falling on the ground disappearing into darkness. Dream over.

Another problem I have when I figure out I'm dreaming is that I sometimes just exit the dream I'm currently at and end up trapped in my bed. I thought it might be sleep paralysis. But things are happening around me that kind of proves I'm still dreaming. I've managed once to get out of this state walking about in my bedroom. But then I loose my balance.

Have anyone else had similar problems keeping control over their own body once becoming lucid? Does any have any good suggestions what to do about these problems? Like I said spinning and rubbing my hands had little effect.

I had experiences where I'm lucid and lose balance. But it's because of my vision. I had some dream experience where I’m not good at walking or running in dreams. Next time in those dreams try floating around if you can’t fly. A good floating technique is you know on TV where a person is meditating and is floating? I do that to start floating. If you can summon objects try summon a wheelchair or a flying carpet. A summoning technique I use is I pull a wand out of my pocket and make people or things appear with that. Also when you disappeared into the darkness did you ‘wake up’ in bed? Sometimes when I lose control of a lucid dream I have a false awakening and end up in bed thinking I’m awake.

I have experienced this problem in two different ways:

Often times when I fly I often fly off in a different direction than I want to go. I remember it with walking too I think.

Also many times in other dreams, I just fall over and wake up.

Also many times if your dream is about to naturally end things go haywire for some reason. I remember specifically one time:

I was in the car with my friend, driving somewhere, it was dark. Next thing I know he jammed on the gas or something because the car started FLYING down the road which I transitioned out of the dream.

I believe in your case the lost balanced doesn't make you wake up, but when your naturally ready to wake up your balance and other things go haywire.

Focus on increasing the stableness and control/lucidity of your dreams right away once you become lucid, and if it starts to happen again immediatly calm your mind and reiterate that you are King in this realm, and try out a technique like hand rubbing or something of that sort-

      Thanks for the replies
Good advices from both of you, justme and Alprazolam. Next time I get lucid I'll calm down first, demand some control and really expect to be the King of the dream. And if that doesn't work I'll try justme's idea of floating. Sounds like more fun than walking anyways I'm not any good at summoning things yet, so I'll put that idea on hold.

Sometimes I do have false awakenings after falling and disappearing into darkness. But then I'm somehow trapped in bed. Can't move a muscle. Things look very normal and realistic. I sometimes wonder if it's SP. But either my body is strange (once it looked burned, like dry and brown) or people who should not even be in the house, walk around in my room. So i figure it's still a dream.

Spread your legs out into a deeper stance so that you have better balance. Then focus on something to stabilize yourself.
