      Walk in forest, cyclops-koala, darkness

      Dear all,

My dream consists of two parts, though I have unfortunately forgotten the first part when I woke up. In the second part, was walking in a forest. I had a clear destination during my dream. In my dream, I knew what my destination was, though I had forgotten by the time I woke up. I think I learned about this destination in the first part.

In any case, there was only a single path through the forest and vegetation along the path was so dense that it would have been impossible to walk another route. Along the path I encountered a koala-cyclops, that is, a koala with only a single eye, positioned in the middle between where the eyes would normally be. In my dream this struck me as very important, though even then I did not know why. There were no other animals. Maybe I should note that I've never seen a real koala in my life, have never been to Australia and have no plans of going there.

As I walked further into the forest, it got darker and darker. This seems strange to me as the tree cover, although present, did not block daylight to a great extent, but darkness came much more quickly than the night could have come. Somewhat later, music started playing (while the darkness was still getting deeper). The music did not come from a specific place, it was everywhere as if I was listening with earphones (though I wasn't wearing any). I liked the music. Though the darkness kept on getting deeper, I remained convinced that I would reach my destination. Then I woke up.

As suggested in the "read this first" thread, I will give some background about myself. I am a 31 year old married male. Currently three things are on my mind, though I care less about the third than the other two:
      - in just over a week from now we will leave on a vacation longer and much further away than we have gone before
      - we have been trying to conceive, but this is not working for unknown reasons; having tried everything already, we will start IVF in a few months
      - although I like my work and my co-workers a lot, I am not making much progress at work

I should also say that I dream only rarely and when I do dream I have usually forgotten about it by the time of breakfast. Since some point in my childhood most dreams have been lucid. Though I never deliberately tried to achieve this, this just came at some point and I'm happy with it. In the case of this dream, I was aware that I was dreaming but had no desire to influence the dream, although I think I could have. In fact, I was thinking during the dream this was actually a dream within a dream. This may be due to the first part which I have forgotten.

      Thanks for any insights,
      Anonymous

      My interpretation:

You know what your goal is, but you feel trapped, as if there are no other paths to get to where you want. You're thinking the other paths are "so dense," and they are not valid paths or options; they might be too risky or too dangerous, or just too stupid to try.

The koala-cyclops might be telling you that you don't "see" very clearly. Seeing with only one eye means your depth perception is screwed. You don't really see clearly that either:

1.) the path you're walking on (or the choice you're working with) will not get you to where you want to go, or
2.) the other paths are not as dense as you thought

The part of the darkening forest further supports the one-eyed koala idea of lack of depth perception. The further you walk that path, the darker (unclear) it becomes. You know where you want to go, but you can't see where it is based on the path that you are walking on. You might be trying to assure yourself with the "music". Yeah, it's dark and I can't see where I'm going, but hey, at least there's good music, and I'm sure if I keep walking this path I'll get there. You might simply be "blinding" or "deaf-ing" yourself to the fact that no, you're in the wrong way.

I know you said you care less about the third concern, but it seems the dream is referring mostly to that. Although it used the symbols of what was foremost in your conscious mind at the moment (travel). I could say it refers to your 2nd concern, but you already have plans of doing something about it. The dream suggests you are sticking to something despite not clearly seeing the path that leads to what you really want.

"I should also say that I dream only rarely and when I do dream I have usually forgotten about it by the time of breakfast."

Yup. Most people are like that. We dream every night, but we often forget it the instant we wake up, and the rest lasts as long as around breakfast time.

Hey, if you can control your dream, try asking next time what you can do about your concerns, especially if there's a person or being/entity around (like the koala-cyclops). Ask about one concern at a time, and listen to and record the response.

      Good luck!

Thanks for your response, quietness! Your analysis makes a lot of sense and seems to match my situation quite well. I agree that the dream is probably referring to the third point, so I guess now I'll have to try and think of a way to act on that.
