      Saving a cat

      Hi,

I saw a dream where I saved a snow covered cat from freezing by taking it into my house. When I wiped away the snow, I realized the cat was also white. Any ideas what it all might mean?

Cats represent the instinctive, intuitive side of oneself and also suggest awakening psychic abilities and strengthening one's intuitive gifts. It being snow covered suggests up to now you might possibly ignored this side of self (snow - frozen ). The house represents our state of mind or consciousness...so taking the cat into your house means you want to incorporate these abilities into your being. Cat being white means pure intentions.

Was that the whole dream? Was it mundane or emotional?

The dream started with me sitting in our living room and I saw the cat outside behind the window. At that point I thought it was one of our cats (we have two) because it was all covered in snow. After I had removed the snow the cat ran upstairs. Then the dream ended with three cats sitting in a row right next to each other all staring at me. The white cat was in the middle and our cats on left and right. I guess the dream was emotional because at the beginning I was afraid the cat might die.

I will first give a very careful and tentative interpretations of the symbols in this dream, and then give my own personal opinion on what the dream may mean for you. Please be aware that I don't know about your current life situation, nor do I necessarily know what all of these symbols may mean to you, so feel free to veto anything I say below. That said, here is what I think:

Well that is certainly an erie ending.

I am not sure how to interpret but there are few generalizations I can give you in my own Jungian interpretation of these symbols:

      - The house/outside.

Usually any buildings you walk into or live in inside a dream are a symbol. It sort of depends on how you felt in the dream, and your real life situation (as Freud often said "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" so I don't want to over-analyse) but I would say in this dream the house is your consciousness. The outside is the unconscious.

      - The cat

The cat symbolizes unconscious content. If the house is consciousness, then therefore the cat coming inside symbolizes some information being moved from the "dark" into the "light", from unconscious to conscious. If you feared for the life of this cat and felt the need to save it, you could say that at the very least your unconscious is trying to tell you to heed its messages

      - 2 cats becoming 3 cats

So we've established that unconscious content is trying to make its way into your consciousness. To make sense of the 2 cats already present in your house, I am going to say that they are a symbol for some sort of conscious content. Maybe a problem that you have been worrying over trying to figure out a resolution for. If the later is the case, then I get the sense that your current picture of the problem will not be complete until you let the 3rd cat in, maybe some repressed or forgotten content/denied possibilities, and only then will be able to solve it.

Triads/trinities are always a meaningful symbol in literature, fairy tales, dreams, and especially religious texts. My own personal interpretation is that you are, or were, a Christian and the cats symbolize the holy trinity. Your shadow-self is trying to tell you that your current conscious state is incomplete, and that you are ignoring the shadow archetype. In Christianity there is generally no room for the shadow archetype, as it is often viewed as satanic. But if you do not confront it, it will continue to grow and become monstrous; and it will manifest itself as you unconsciously project it onto those around you.

Please let me know what you think!

Thanks for the comments. I am not really religious, but maybe was agnostic before, maybe I still am. I never really understood the holy trinity and have never heard a good explanation about what it means. I am somewhat of an existentialist maybe. This is a really difficult question, but I do not have any ill feelings about my spirituality really.

It doesn't have to be complicated. The message is about trusting your Intuition and your gutt instincts in life.

I really like the cigar sometimes is just a cigar interpretation of this dream in this case: you are a cat person dreaming of cats, maybe they represent ... cats? Unless you have a strong sense that they are not what they appear to be. If the cats are just cats, this dream could have happened as follows: in your dream you noticed bad weather snow outside, so you think "I hope none of my cats are out there". Boom! That thought causes a cat to be out there. You rescue cat, but notice that something is not right, that your dream cat is not like you real life cats. What's off? It's white. So you think: ah, but neither of my cats are white, so this is a third cat. Boom! That thought causes all three cats to appear.

It could be as simple as that with no hidden meanings. Unless the dreamer has a strong feeling that there is a hidden meaning, there really does not have to be, when a cat person dreams of cats.

Then I think just keep this dream in the back of your mind and see if any other dreams illuminate it. I would definitely watch for more cat symbolism but also more broadly watch for either any dreams about femininity.

Post The Snow Cat That Came In From The Cold

Maybe you felt cold about yourself, or felt left out in the cold.
Maybe something made you feel that way, and so see yourself that way.
And when you wiped away those emotions that threatened to freeze you, you revealed you were only good underneath. That you were cold about nothing.

      UPDATED DETAILS:
In your life, you saw your care or love for yourself was outside of yourself.
At first you thought it was yours, because it was covered in cold emotion so you didn't recognise it, being outside in the cold.
After warming it up, maybe you felt up, and better - warmth rises. Or this care now ran up into your mind. And you saw how good you were now.

This new you or affection was now central to your care, which you feared at first might die and freeze without your attention.
