multi year recurring dream about returning to college

I am now 37 years old and graduated from college 15 years ago. I've held a career in corporate America during this time.

For about five years now I've had a recurring dream that I'm in college again, but at present age. There are two specific sub-themes:
      1. It's the first day and I don't have my class schedule.
      2. I am looking for a place to live, but don't want the dorms. I want my family with me.

Each time I know I'm in the dream. General circumstances of my present life: married, two boys, a career that's not entirely 'me', recent health issues involving major muscle weakness (undiagnosed).

I am open to any interpretive thoughts. My thanks to you!

Ah, yes! Those types of recurring dreams are fairly common: college and school leave a lasting impression on many of us. I am 39, and like you I have left education behind me a while ago.

I've had dreams over the years and most recently less than a year ago for sure, where it is the day of the final and I realize that not only did I not study but I never attended this class, and other variations on that theme.

I think those dreams are perhaps a sign of stress (?), and our dreaming mind reaches back to the tried and true education template as a setting for the stress.

Isn't that interesting? I've had the same dream: end of a semester, hadn't been attending a certain class but had FORGOTTEN to unenroll from it, and panicking.

Just now as I was hanging sheets out on the line to dry, it made me think about the dream faeries pulling the right dreams from their repositories when people need it.

I graduated community college the first time 6 years ago, but I headed back to finish my second AA in Computer Science, and I plan to transfer. Anyway, the reason I bring that up is because I had a dream about being in a Math class that I didn't study for or do Home Work. This dream actually encouraged me to go back.

Dream 1 - Not having your class schedule on the 1st day may mean that you may be going through some sort of transition in your current life, but you feel unprepared for it. It could be something minor, like having a slight change in your work schedule, to something major like a change in a health routine that you may have to stick to the rest of your life.

Dream 2 - Another transitional dream, as most students can struggle finding a place to live when they first go to college. You may feel that you are about to enter another stage of your life, but you are unprepared again. Wanting your family with you also indicates you may be in a time of need, and feel you need the support of your family and friends.

Basically, fill in the blank when it comes to my interpretation. You mentioned you incorporate life issues into your dreams, so you feel many things in your life are changing.

Funny thing about my current experience in college, you need planning and you need to talk to counselors, leave our family and friends (I'm not saying to leave them, lol but they may be going through transitions, too.), and you need to make good choices that effect the rest of your life. Maybe you need to incorporate these to resolve some issues in a metaphorical sense. Hope that helps.
