      Family deaths.

I've had two dreams so far of family members dying. This first was a few nights ago if my step father. We were in the grocery store and he was mad because the store sold us a box of busted drinks. They were all in a bag inside the box busted. I was tired and wanted to go home. My mother went to go get the car. My step father decided he will just buy something else and leave the situation alone. He is pushing one buggy and I am pushing the other. He is a bit ahead of me talking to my mom on the phone. It's night outside and cool and I'm looking ahead at my step father when I see him collapse. I run forward truly I am scared, terrified, I'm freaking out crying. I'm calling out his name and he isn't responding. He is having a heart attack (he had a heart attack a little over 4 years ago) I keep calling his name and I remember he was talking to my mom. I grab the phone and she is still on right as I am about to tell her what has happened she hangs up. I told my step father It will be ok ill call 911 and then mom again. He grabs the phone and flings it away. He doesn't want me to call anyone. I woke up shaking and crying. I love my step father almost more than life it's self. So I woke and was very shaken from this dream.

This morning I had another dream of a family member dying. It was more of she was already dead than it was of her dying. Most knows the feeling of loving your own mother more than you very own life. I would give my life to my mother if I could. She means the absolute most to me. So in my dream my family can summon the dead the day before my birthday. (My birthday is August 4th I will be 18 today). So we do I'm not sure who the man is who is playing my mothers cousin. But I feel for him a lot. But he is the one who usually summons certain people. At first my mother is alive in my dream but its Like life fast forward a bit and we are going to my great aunts grave. I didn't know her but that is where my mother wanted to go. My mother was talking about how she wish she was here for all our birthdays. And she looked at my almost like she wanted to die again because she was going to miss my 18th birthday. And I began to cry and shake because I loved her so much and she was going to miss it just by a day. That soon my mother would be gone from me again. I began to cry and shake for real. I woke up crying and shaking. As if my mother really was gone. But she isn't I keep crying every time I think of these dreams because they felt so real and vivid.

I spend most if my days with only my mother and step father. We are a healthy family we make jokes all the time with each other tease one another. Have lots of family time. Just watching movies going to the park garage sales giant trade centers. Everything. We are a close family. My step father is a caring person even if he doesn't want to admit it. And is wise I believe him to be. My mother she likes to be seen as not weak. But we know she grows serious attachments to people and she will care for them as if they were her children.

I'm posting my dreams wanting interpretations because these dreams are really bothering me I don't know why I am having dreams like this. I don't know the meaning if its bad or good. I guess I really need the reassurance that they will be on and not die/be dead. Anything would be helpful. I hope I've provided enough info to help you interpret these.

I think such dreams have more to do with your psyche than with the health of your actual family members you dreamed about. So the question is not, "are they going to die?" Eventually we all will, but there is no reason to think that it is imminent. The question is why are you having dreams about family members dying.

One question: how are you feeling? Are you depressed or stressed or unusually sad in waking life? Dreams of death can sometimes (though not always of course) be a sign of depression. Got to rule that out first. If the answer is yes, then please seek help of your family and friends and if needed a professional.

If you are ok, next question: has there been or will there be any major change in your life that makes you more independent of your family? Dreaming of death of parents may be symbolic for your concern over how your greater independence will work out with your love for your family. EDIT: Aha, reread your dream again. I had somehow skipped over the fact that you are now turning 18. Of course that makes this interpretation I think the most likely. You are becoming an adult. Your greater independence caused you to dream of your parents deaths, because now you will not be a minor any more, and they won't be your guardians. Part of you may be uncomfortable with this change, worried about how it will affect your parents and your relationship to your parents, how you all will adjust to your new roles. In a sense your parents in their roles of guardians of the minor you are now dying, only to be reborn into the new roles of parents of adult you.

Another option is to think of all characters in the dreams as representing parts of yourself, parts of your personality. If you are changing emotionally and intellectually and in other ways to be less like your family and more your own person, then that could also be an explanation for such dreams. Not really the death of family members but the death of what they represent, for example if they were conservative and you were becoming a liberal, or something else that made you different from your family.

I am sure there are many other possible interpretations, and if these are wrong, feel free to discard them. If these are wrong, think about the problems and issues and changes in your life right now, and whether these dreams could not tie into them in some way - if you like feel free to tell us a bit more about what is happening in your life and what is on your mind, and that could help us brainstorm the meaning of this dream.

I think it might be the fact I am becoming more independent ill be going to college and I got my first job this summer that has to be it. After I read what you said about becoming more independent my body relaxed as if that is what it was. Thank you for that as well.
