dream of long ago ex?

Sorry if this doesn't make all too much sense, I'm extremely confused. [BACKGROUND] I'm not even sure where to start. We broke up over 2 years ago and until just last week she was out of my mind. I had a gut feeling last week that she was either going to try to contact me, or something terrible had happened to her (for no apparent reason). Since then, I'm feeling just as I did over 2 years ago when she broke my heart. A few days ago, I learn from family members that are facebook friends with her, that she has dumped the guy she pursued after me and started a relationship with a guy that looks to be over twice her age. now to the dream portion. [DREAM] Yesterday I decided to take a short nap. I dreamt that I woke up and there were red butterflies coming through my window so I jumped out of bed to shut the window, I got the window closed in time to see a big red butterfly fly away as smaller ones kept swarming the window. They were a very vibrant red, it induced me with a sense of fear but they were also very beautiful. Now in my dream I'm at some party at a place I've never been to. I knew my ex was there and I ran to try and find her. But when I found her and she noticed me, I had no interest in seeing her and tried to get away. She chased me down, screaming my name telling me to wait up. She finally caught me and gave me a hug, I squeezed her tight and didn't want to let go but my dream took another teleport and we aren't beside each other anymore. I was at a different spot in the party and I was trying to find her again, but this time I didn't really have interest in being near her (if that makes sense). for the rest of the party portion of the dream, I kept her in my sight. it was like I was invisible to everyone at the party except for her. When I went to leave I came out to the first piece of junk car I have owned. the license plates were dated for 2005 (before I even had a license) and it looked like someone had ripped off the front plate and left it on the ground. I got in the car and took off down the road to find that I had no idea where I was. the party was at some old farm house deep in the woods and I had come out in the middle of a highway. I drove out onto the highway and thought I was going the wrong way, as a trailer truck had slammed on the brakes and blocked that whole side of the highway. but it straightened out extremely quickly and I realized that both sides of the highway were going the opposite way as I was. my dream ended with me being completely lost on this highway. I'm not even sure where to start on this dream. I usually don't remember my dreams and I haven't dreamt about her since the breakup was fresh. The butterflies really stood out and I thought that part was real until I woke up and realized my window was still open. I also didn't or possibly couldn't talk throughout the whole dream. I appreciate any insight, Thank you for reading.

I researched red butterflies in dreams and I had tons of mixed results. passion, death, change, ect all for the color red. But looking at your analysis I would say it's pretty accurate to say red indicates passion. any idea on why I was lost on a highway at the end of my dream? or is that my mind telling me I'm bad with directions...
