It is not weird but quite natural that you dream about your ex girlfriend. You have invested a lot of feelings in her, and one could say that inside of you these feelings will always dwell. As time passes these feelings will sink and eventually it will be placed in a certain room you may never visit and you may forget about it. But that little room will always be there, and some time in the future the dreams may use that content to describe something it tries to communicate. That is very much how dreams work, and when that happens, it may have nothing to do with the actual person, but rather the image of her can be a description of certain feelings you once had. This is especially true if you have no relation to the person you dream of. This is sometimes called a "subjective" interpretation of characters in dreams.
This dream however, comes when you still have a relationship of sorts with the person, and the dream can be a comment on that; the person in the dream is used to describe your relationship with the actual, outer person -- and that would be an "objective" interpretation. Often, though it perhaps sounds paradoxical, a person in a dream is a little of both.
This is a short dream, about two sentences, so there's not really much to interpret. It seems to be a reflection of conflicting emotions; on the one hand you long for what you once had, and you follow that emotion; on the other you realize that you cannot have it (with her), and turns back.
If so, you seem to make the right decision (even though dreams seldom judge), because the reason for your turning back is the weather (factual circumstances you cannot influence), and on the other the time of the day -- it is too late. One the one hand there's a part of you which naturally wants what you once had, on the other you realize you cannot have it (with her), and the dream may simply be a reflection on that. Dreams are often reflections of inner dynamics.
