Can the female cycle effect dreams??

The past two nights I have had really wild dreams with some nightmare components in them. Then today I read that in ancient times women were believed to have a dreaming power two days before the start of their cycle... And today my cycle started and it struck me that maybe there were important messages in these dreams? Going off a whim here Any interpretation at all would be so amazing and helpful!

The first dream was incredible it was like I was in the Matrix I took a crazy futuristic train to "work" which from what I can remember was a lot of fighting evil (and fighting for the purpose of saving lives and for our freedom) I was a really important person making a big difference and in one part of my dream I passed by a group of people and one woman wanted her young daughter to meet me and wanted me to talk to her, I felt like some sort of hero or role model. I was in a very passionate romantic relationship with the leader of our team, tho I don't remember much interaction between us as we were on the job but we gave each other looks of admiration that lit my heart on fire! At the end of the dream I was in our "office", this invisible (glass I could see out but nobody could see in) futuristic computerized matrix style place. I woke up as I was walking back to the train to go home.

Then last nights dreams had a lot of parts but the one thing I really remember was horrible... My mom was getting a surgery on her jaw but it was horrific... Her jaw was huge and deformed and I got there as the doc was getting his electric saw ready. My mom was conscious and not on pain killers (I witnessed the birth of my little sister and my mom didn't use pain killers then and was so quiet and calm) the doc told me I could lay beside my mom on the bed and hold her. I laid beside her and the doc leaned over me, she opened her jaw for him and he started sawing! She didn't blink an eye!! The sound of her bone being sawed was so horrible it woke me up. (Note on my relationship with my mother: my mom and I have never been close, she was physically and emotionally abusive during my childhood. I have been working with a therapist the past 3months to deal with this, last week doing a "detachment visualization" where I broke the negative bond between us and set us both free. I haven't talked to her in about 4months, she is still a pretty negative person. I am guessing this nightmare has something to do with that.) When I woke I was so concerned about her and also horrified she seemed to have no feeling, and wanting to say to her "you don't have to do this".

An earlier part of this same dream I just remembered, I took some sort of drug and was high (it felt like I was drunk, don't really know what high feels like!) my father in law was taking care of my daughter and I went off on an adventure (very unlike me, and I don't leave my daughter with anyone yet as she is too young and I am still working on my trust issues ) all I remember is talking to old elementary school friends that I never really fit in with. My husband started panicking that his dad was back early and I was TERRIFIED he would see that I was "high". Soooo strange.

Sorry it's long but any interpretations would be so great!!! Thank you!!!!

Hm - it is perfectly easy to pose the hypothesis that the female hormone-cycle - being a cycle and not a steady-state - does influence your dreams in a specific manner, at least specific to you.
If you journal - try to look out for recurring phases of similar dreams.
It is known without a shadow of a doubt that said hormone-cycle influences mood, thoughts, feelings, outlook and general well-being.
So it makes perfect sense, that it also influences dreams.

I definitely think the female cycle influences dreams, however I am not sure how, and I assume not consistently for different women.

When I read your dreams, I thought of the Christmas Carol, where Scrouge is visited by the ghosts of Past, Present, and Future. I think your dreams likewise show your past, present and future, but not in a literal way but more through dream symbolism.

The first dream is futuristic and thus could be about the future, the future of your mind, your potential. It shows that you can be important and admired, you can make a difference. Perhaps not literally by having a job that saves the world, but the dream I think is saying that you can be empowered and be much more than you may think. Do you struggle from low self esteem usually? The reason why I say that is that I do, and yet at times I also have such empowering dreams.

I think low self esteem is common among children of parents who were emotionally abusive. The dream with your mother shows you your past in a sense. It brings back memories of emotional abuse and of watching your mother give birth and not flinch. One could say the not flinching in the situation of high pain may have made it even more stressful for you because you feel the stress of the situation, but your mother does not show pain, so you empethize but have no sense of connection. The chainsaw jaw situation is highly stressful, and your being asked to lie next to your mother is a lot to ask of you, a huge imposition. In a way though it is what you impose on yourself: you choose to empathize and care for your mother even when it is not appreciated or reciprocated. To some extent this dream is about the emotional baggage of your past, what you need to overcome in order to reach the full empowered potential self that the first dream showed you. Of course, the overcoming is not about not empathizing, you are not expected to not feel the pain yourself, but how do you reach your full potential despite the emotional pain baggage, that is your challenge.

The drugged dream I think is in a way about the present. When we sleep we often feel somewhat drugged because we are not fully conscious mostly asleep, and thus dreams of being drugged or drunk are common. However, I don't know about you, but for me when I am not self aware enough, I feel a kind of brain fog that means my mental abilities are inhibited due to emotional impairment. As you say you currently have issues with trust, and this dream shows you that. It points out that you are not willing to leave your child with a family member to game some "me time" - having me time is important for a mother's sanity, being a mother of two myself I highly recommend taking time for oneself and trusting others with one's child at times. The thing is that this will actually make you a better mother, because it will help you revitalize, and then you can be more patient and more attentive as a parent after having a break for yourself. In this dream you are also worried that your husband will see your weakness, however the advantage of having a spouse is that here is someone we can show even our weaknesses too. It's ok to admit that I am not a superhero. It's ok to admit that I need some time for myself, that I need his help at times. If your spouse is a loving spouse, he will understand and hopefully help you out, so you can regroup and are more likely to reach your full potential.
You may say I'm a dreamer.

Thank you sooo much for your insights!!!! I think the past/present/future makes so much sense... I do have low self esteem and am working on self improvement and the futuristic part is definitely the person I want to become (self assured and confident). Thank you so much for breaking it down for me it makes much more sense and the obsticals I need to overcome to get there. Yes I agree us mommas need me time, and this definitely motivates me to ask for some help thank you so much!!!!

Meh....Another reason scientists need to find a way to stop periods without horribly destroying the body or organs. This is extremely important for us lucid dreamers!
