      Completly opposite of me

There is a dream symbol that occurs a lot in my dreams. It's a black male. I'm a white female. One time i had a dream that i was a police officer and i got shot at. Right before i died, i called for back up. Even though i had died, my dream was still going on and i could still see what was happening. I saw my "back up" come in... and it was me, the person i am right now. I looked back at the person i was before, and i was a black male.
I've also had a dream where i was watching a black man build a brick wall between two doors. No idea what that means! but what could this mean? Especially since he's a re-occuring symbol?

Blackness, Darkness represent immanence, becoming.. presaging of future potentials. It may also represent deeper layers of the Inner Self.

Your dream may have indicated something of a Persona Shift. Psychologists have a terrible time determining the exact dynamics of Persona Identification. It is only because of Schizophrenic Episodes that they even find that have to admit that there is such a thing as Persona Structures. So your dream of a dark inner self dying and your actual Self coming for 'Back up' indicates that you are becoming more consciously in charge of your own Persona. We may take this for granted, that people are Conscious; however, in my interactions with people, I am sometimes convinced that some people have all the consciousness of automatons. They don't seem to be acting reflectively. All their actions and all of their thought arise out of conditioned habit. consciousness is not really required for that, is it? But your Dream indicates that your Waking Persona has become somewhat more empowered.

Now the Brick Wall between the two doors worries me. This deep aspect within your subconscious mind, is setting up a barrier, a limitation between two options. It suggests Moral Compartmentalism, which is very popular these days. For instance, in America the Religious Right almost necessarily has to engage in a large degree of Moral compartmentalism -- supposing themselves Religious in one Compartment, while advocating War, Greed, and social Exploitation within the domains of their Political Compartment. Effectively the Persona is divided up into Sub Categories, and one is no longer a whole person.

Maybe it wouldn't hurt to expose yourself to more Higher Spirtual Influences... to bring some Light into the Darkness.

I would hardly consider a black man to be the "opposite" of you. I can see male being opposite to female, but since when are black people the "opposite" of white people?

In the Realm of Dream Symbols, which is what we are talking about, Black is the opposite of White. You do of course know what Symbols are, don't you. It is the minds way of communicating Concepts and Generalities. Yes, unfortunately, generalities are a lot like stereotypes, and yes, we know that stereotypes are very naughty things without you having to tell us that also. But it is the Language the Mind uses. We need not be stupid about these things. We can appreciate Generalities while still recognizing the exceptional particulars. But only God can have Particular Knowledge of All Things... the rest of us need to depend almost entirely upon General Knowledge.

But, yes, we should give you the Feelgood Award for being Politically Correct, and bonus points for being holier than thou. I'm sure you mean well when you introduce such hostility and contentiousness into a conversation that was entirely innocent of it before.

I'm not trying to make anybody feel guilty, my point is that while I can see black (the color) being opposite to white (the color), those are just LABELS. They don't actually describe those types of people- we all know that black people aren't literally "black" in any sense of the word, just as we know that white people aren't literally "white," either. Do you see what I'm getting at? Just because we use the terms "black" and "white" to refer to those different groups of people doesn't mean that they are truly opposite. If that be the case, what is the opposite of "yellow" (asian) people? Or "red" (native american) people? There is none, of course, and such thinking is ridiculous.

We could say African, nigger, Caucasian, any number of words and it wouldn't seem quite so "opposite," even though it refers to the same exact people. Being politically correct isn't my goal... it never is, in fact. I sincerely don't think that black people and white people should be seen as opposites simply because we might use the terms "black" and "white" to refer to them.

Please try and give some serious consideration to what I'm saying, and I would appreciate it if you would respond in a less hostile tone yourself. I'm not trying to be contentious or holier-than-thou, nor do I mean to accuse any of you of being racist.

What Leo is saying is the truth. I for one never reveal my nationality or where I was born simply for the fact that I don't want anyone to have even subconscious generealities about me. Because if I was to say that I belong to some nationality then that person's subconscious would immediately associate me with others of that nationality that the person in question has met, seen, etc.

Now this in itself may not be very objective and wise but nonetheless it relates to this topic.

"Labels" as you put it aren't the point here. Such stereotypes are most often conscious for the most part and their subconscious sources can be completely different from their conscious representations.

i am definitly not racist. This was something that i thought about while the dream was occuring. Black, and White could be labels that we put on races, but really the point i was making or at least trying to make clear was the fact that i am a lightly colored woman, and my dream symbol was a dark colored man. That IS opposite.
