      White Room

Last night I had a dream about being in my boyfriends room. Even tho I know what his room looks like I saw it as a very white, clean (almost hospital like) room. A cold kind of white and the air in the room? A pleasant thin clean air. One thing I especially remember was an Ikea shelf. Any ideas what this might mean?

Although in order to provide a more accurate interpretation it would usually be best to have some additional general background information about you (and a description of events just before the dream), here are a few ideas about its possible meaning.

Just to start off by saying that dreams perform psychologically something like the body does physically. That is, dreams usually are trying to balance out an attitude or general outlook etc. etc. that could possibly become harmful to the individual if persisted in. This is something like physical symptoms alerting a person to the need to attend to some kind of bodily problem.

A person in a dream can represent the outer person, an aspect of the dreamer or a combination of the two.

Also, the direct or indirect presence of a male in the dreams of a woman at least partly generally symbolizes her so-called “masculine” side, things like “mind”, intellect, thought, opinions, focus and assertiveness etc. etc.

So the cold, white, hospital-like room of your boyfriend with its thin, clean air might possibly symbolize a growing tendency towards wanting too much “perfection” in, say, your flute playing instead of allowing emotions from deep within to flow out into the performance.

If so, from the dream’s point of view, this would be too “intellectual” and “dry” instead of being balanced with the “earthy” side of emotions.

While Ikea products are of course very popular and useful, in the context of the white room, the shelf’s presence might instead suggest a kind of “neat”, “one-size-fits-all”, and cool “artificial” approach to certain things. So it’s possible the dream could be hinting that you need a more overall “individual” approach to your life in some ways.

Anyway as mentioned, without knowing anything much about you, this way of looking at your dream might not fit your personal circumstances very well, but I hope these ideas can be helpful in some way.

Please feel free to ask any questions or to make any comments about this particular way of looking at your dream.
