This dream is a good example of a dream with more than one possible meaning. I suppose that it could be some sort of precognitive dream or perhaps a spirit attack. But I believe that the dream is meant to be taken symbolically.
Using the theories of Carl Jung, the dream-you represents your ego. (The ego is the center of the consciousness.) The others in this dream would archetypal symbols from the collective unconscious. See http://www.dreamviews.com/philosophy...ml#post2189663
You are seated at a table with other people. The number and types of people at the table may be important.
The argument between your significant other and the lady sounds like each is vying for the job of your anima. That is, your significant other would be your anima at the second level while the lady would probably be the dreamer’s anima at either the first of the third level.
As the dreamer prepares to hit the lady, he has the feeling that he is being held down. He also wrote that it felt like a clothespin was snapped shut on his throat.
Putting this all together –
1. The dreamer is at a long table with other people. These other people are symbols of archetypes from the dreamer’s collective unconscious. They are at the table because they are interested in what is going to happen in the dream.
2. The dreamer’s girl friend is a symbol of the anima at the second stage of development while the lady is probably a symbol of the anima at the third stage. The reason for the conflict is probably because the lady is at the 3rd stage. She is trying to supplant your girl friend as the anima.
3. The dreamer’s animosity to the lady is not well received by the other people. They are, not surprisingly, in support of the lady who is a symbol of the more developed anima. Thus, they show their support by restraining the dreamer (which is actually the dreamer’s ego).
4. I’m less sure about the clothespin at the throat. We can get a feel for what this might mean by looking at the function of the throat, which is used for breathing, talking (and singing) and swallowing food. Any or all of these functions might be important. I suspect that the reason for the attack is because the dreamer attacked the lady and, thus, rejected her as an anima.
Hope this helps.
