      Disturbing Dream...any help please?

      hi all,

new user signed up b/c of this dream. wanted some feedback i had this dream a week ago and have been thinking about it alot.

i was seated at a long cafeteria style table with my significant other (among others i didn't know) I could tell my significant other was in a very heated argument with a lady sitting across the table from her. i could see they were both very animated but i couldn't hear or maybe understand/comprehend what was being said. they both stood up and began get more angry and animated.

at that point I jumped up and I drew my fist back in order to strike the lady who was arguing with my significant other and it was almost like someone from behind me threw a pillow case over my head and jerked me back.

(it also seemed as if i wasn't dreaming anymore i knew i was being held down and my eyes covered by something.)

i also felt a pinch on my throat like someone pulled my skin and placed a close pin on the throat of my skin and snapped it shut .

i always keep a knife in my pants pocket. ALWAYS(grew up in nyc)...so in this dream like state i began fighting being held down and managed to slip my hand in my pocket. i slid it down my pocket and reached my knife

at that point i was suddenly let go and i woke up.

i felt like i need to get back and attack whatever attacked me. i was very angry when i woke up and never felt like that before from a dream (in my mid 30s')

it felt more than just a dream

any feedback or opinions of what this was or what it's symbolic about?

      thanks in advance h

This dream is a good example of a dream with more than one possible meaning. I suppose that it could be some sort of precognitive dream or perhaps a spirit attack. But I believe that the dream is meant to be taken symbolically.

Using the theories of Carl Jung, the dream-you represents your ego. (The ego is the center of the consciousness.) The others in this dream would archetypal symbols from the collective unconscious. See http://www.dreamviews.com/philosophy...ml#post2189663

You are seated at a table with other people. The number and types of people at the table may be important.

The argument between your significant other and the lady sounds like each is vying for the job of your anima. That is, your significant other would be your anima at the second level while the lady would probably be the dreamer’s anima at either the first of the third level.

As the dreamer prepares to hit the lady, he has the feeling that he is being held down. He also wrote that it felt like a clothespin was snapped shut on his throat.

      Putting this all together –
      1. The dreamer is at a long table with other people. These other people are symbols of archetypes from the dreamer’s collective unconscious. They are at the table because they are interested in what is going to happen in the dream.
      2. The dreamer’s girl friend is a symbol of the anima at the second stage of development while the lady is probably a symbol of the anima at the third stage. The reason for the conflict is probably because the lady is at the 3rd stage. She is trying to supplant your girl friend as the anima.
      3. The dreamer’s animosity to the lady is not well received by the other people. They are, not surprisingly, in support of the lady who is a symbol of the more developed anima. Thus, they show their support by restraining the dreamer (which is actually the dreamer’s ego).
      4. I’m less sure about the clothespin at the throat. We can get a feel for what this might mean by looking at the function of the throat, which is used for breathing, talking (and singing) and swallowing food. Any or all of these functions might be important. I suspect that the reason for the attack is because the dreamer attacked the lady and, thus, rejected her as an anima.

      Hope this helps.

it seems like this dream is your subconscious showing you that you are having trouble expressing something to your significant other. I'm no dream expert at all, but I've read that dreams where you are being silenced or suffocated can often mean you are having trouble telling someone about something important to you. You're voice is not being heard and your mind is trying to show you that this problem exists.

I think the guy above me has a more technical understanding of dreams, but thats just my vague interpretation. Hope it helps!
