Not being able to hit someone

It seems lately I have been getting into a lot of fights in my dreams. The only thing I can remember of them is I always have the person pegged on the ground. I go to give them shots to the face but there is some kind of force sucking my arms back.

It's not as if I dont want to hit the person, I do. I can remember great anger when i'm getting ready to hit them. But, something is sucking my arm back and not letting me hit the person.

This has happened atleast 6 times in the past year as far as I can remember. Any insight?

dude i know where your coming from i used to have the same thing
      I'm a boxer...and i got into a few street fight before i started boxing...and
in my dreams when i'm punching someone i use all my force to hit them but by the time my punch gets to them my arms had slowed down to just barely touching them...maybe it means we shouldn't be fighting for no reason

My feeling is that this is an anxiety dream. Whatever the fighting represents the weakness is just selfdoubt.
That's not to say anything about you in waking life. Anxiety is a normal presence, like a counterweight to overconfidence.

I would like to offer maybe a reality check here as an explanation. Maybe its not representing anything but simply that your arm is in a position while your asleep that its not able to move freely or offers a resistance depending on how you lay.. The reason I am pointing this out is because night camera's have been set before and video a person sleeping. You can see the person struggling earnestly in their sleep and when they awoke they said they dreamed they where running but it felt like they where running in slow motion or through water.. It was because their legs where tired of trying to move in that position while they slept.. maybe your arm is in the same situation and just unable to complete a free movement of a swing because the way your laying.. this inturn is represented in your dream as just not being able to hit at all..

      just another point of view..
To journey life without a dream is nothing more than a nightmare....

      I can think of three things;

Anxiety, fear or a feeling of inadequecy. I get this. I dream that I can see an intruder trying to break into the house and I bang as hard as I can on the window, but either I can't hit the window or it makes no sound.

Guilt or concience holding you back.

Or sleep paralyisis. You could be starting to wake up, causing you to try and move your real arms and finding that you can't.

i had a similar dream to this the other night,it felt realy wierd not being able to hit someone when i tried really hard.

i think thats what it is because in my dream i couldnt punch but i did manage to strangle the guy from behind

This happened to me in a dream one time. I was being attacked by two people and all three of us were moving quickly but when I went to punch it was like my hands were underwater. Like there was a force going against my fist and by the time they got to the people my fists were hardly moving. Maybe it's a thing with fighters/boxers/wrestlers. I used to do karate for a good number of years and now I wreslte for my school. It is a very good RC, I guess.

yeah...you think its with fighters?....honestly...my conclusion is that when dreams like that happen we either lost the fight and lost our confidence to fight ...or we just lack confidence...

I dont know about it being a fighter thing.

It has happened to me several times and trust me, I'm a lover not a fighter although I do have a short fuse.

I personally think that it is maybe a fear of fighting or losing, full stop.
I'm not personally scared to defend myself by any means necessary but I wont start a fight and I wont fight if I can help it.

My dreams were always of me fighting in the school playground (I left school 6 yrs ago)
and the fights were usually with the same person.

At school I was able to hold my own in a scuff but I was well aware that there were some of guys capable of whooping my ass.

THe guy I was usually fighting was not really a match for me in reality but he was the first person I fought when I started secondary school.
