      Touching the clouds

I have this certain non lucid dream about once every three months, so it's not common but it is very special. It has a very nice feel to it, and I wake up thinking it as significant.

Basically, it's the middle of the night and the moon is shining really brightly so that the clouds are luminous, like from certain movies and it's very beutiful. I'm stood (firmly) on a layer of very thin cloud, just a metre thick or so, basically a small level of fog in the sky. I can see through this to city lights far below, and I recognise it significantly as Bradford, not just a random city. The greatest spectacle though is what's above me. There's just this endless mass of really thick cloud above me, stretching out forever in all directions! I know it's just a dream, but the sense of vastness is incredible, almost disturbing. It's an ineffible feeling, some kind of combination of wonder, fear and thrill. Usually when I have the dream I'm holding a very long pole and touching the cloud layer above me. I break it, as if the cloud has skin, and this white fluid stuff leaks slowly out. Strangely enough I can feel the end of the pole as if it is an extension of my body and the stuff feels icy and cold.

I think this dream is telling me about my atheist beleifs and their limitations , which I won't go into in one post alone because I want it to look shorter. Yes, that's how things get done around here! Give it a few replies first . To be honest I am interested in dream symbolism because it's surprising how accurate it can be, but I don't trust my subconscious too much. It could be on to something, but doubtless you do get random dreams that mean nothing. Any comments about the dream are welcome.

Interesting hypothesis, Idolfan. Certainly in some interpretation models, up means the "superego" which includes beliefs, values and all things spiritual so you have good company.

You sense the cloud layer as vast and cold. It forms a barrier between you and infinity. And as it's you not any random DC testing this barrier it suggests you feel like this in RL - that there is nothing beyond you're world or perhaps you think there might be but you're frozen out of it.

How would it feel to be open to other possibilities - intangible ones - than your current belief system allows?

Well what do you think about bradford? Is this a city close to you? Is it a local metroplis which is full of hedonistic pursuits or whatever? Is there a similar vastness to it as in the dream? In short what does bradford mean to you?
The dream seems to deal with the theme of superficiality? what real life thoughts deal with this issue of superficiality?
      ------------------------
The dreams we have are very much related to the brain and how it devotes time to the pressing needs in our lives. The dream mind can decide to try to look at the bigger picture. In other words we may suddenly stand back and take a good long look at our lives. We may ask what is the point of carrying on with a job that we hate or a relationship that is falling apart. So in that way the intuitive mind may decide to take an objective look at the reality of our lives.
At other times the dream mind will be content to get caught up in the little issues in our lives. It may wonder if we should get ourselves a new hair cut or if we should decide to get a new digital TV. So the dreams we have will sometimes reflect the bigger and important long view but also expect them to get caught up in the seemingly mundane issues of everyday life.
Try to see what type of a mood you are in. If you suddenly feel as if you are thinking more in the long term then look at your dreams in that way. They are likely to link to general issues and about the bigger picture and how you live your life. They may reflect your own personality and some changes that you are trying to bring about.

Wow sorry, I live in Bradford . It could represent my peers then, or even the "present" or "current state" or whatever.

I can relate this dream to what you say Burned up. I am an atheist, and sometimes I feel as if I'm "enlightened" or above everybody else. Sometimes I think I'm blessed to think there is no god. The realism I learned is that none of that matters, outside my mind I'm no better than everyone else. I hoped that my beleifs would bring new opportunities and fortune, but they haven't. This all relates to the dream.

The problem with this is I was having the dream long before I concluded that I was an atheist, most of my life I was just undecided.

I have the impression that you're really wanting to believe in atheism yet you're also saying it's like . maybe it's time to consider other possibilities? Other beliefs and values? The cloud barrier is of your own making.
