Thread: The Dreams of Ruthers

First found this site yesterday after becoming interested in characteristics of dreams and decided to employ some of the techniques of dream recall last night.

Usually I never remember that I have a dream or at the most know that I have had a dream but don't know what it was about.

Before going to bed last night I drank about 2 pints of water to try and make myself wake up in the night and it seemed to work (along with repeating to myself to wake up after my dreams before i fell asleep)

Anyway! I never imagined how successful this would be. I managed to remember one dream in very good detail and another couple vaguely.

The first one which was also the one I remembered the best was Very very wierd/scary....At first I thought I was playing a console game...PS3 i think because of the black wireless controller but it wasn't on a screen, it was as if the screen didnt have edges, so I suppose the actual dream was what was happening in the game. And also graphics were just real life. the game that i was supposedly playing in my dream was pretty wierd, some kind of sci-fi shooter, I was in this orange/red landscape...red sky, orange grass and there was an orange lake :S . the dream basically involved me trying to escape from this big red robot that was chasing me around this orangey landscape through hulks of tangled metal and things, was really scary because it made horrible sounds that I havent ever heard before and the robot thingy laughed evily as well.

The dream (/nightmare) then got a whole load wierder because I remember getting scared in the dream when this robot caught me so I tried to pause the game I was playing in my dream, and remember looking at a controller in my hands and pressing the pause button. but it wouldn't pause which scared the crap out of me so I think my next plan was to turn the console off so I threw the control on the ground and ran to where I thought I could turn the console off, but it wasn't there. Then i realised i was part of the game, so it wasn't a game any more but the actual dream. I turned round and saw the robot thingy next to the control i had chucked on the ground and it asked what the control was and started laughing evily when I explained. I think at this point i was so scared because I thought i couldnt escape that I woke up.

Pretty annoying that the first dream I manage to recall in vivid detail was in fact a damn scary/wierd nightmare.
Also It was wierd that i had a videogame orientated dream because I haven't played a videogame for quite a long time and have never used a PS3! Another thing is I believe the style of the game I was playing was half life 2 but only a hunch.

The other dream was completely random and i didnt recall it in as much length or detail as the other one. I seem to remeber being in a big emty church ringing the bells with a couple of other people who i didnt know, one of them had a colony of rats following him around. thats it for that dream.

The final dream was me thinking I had woken up and in real life I actually needed to phone a friend of mine. In the dream where I thought I had woken up I got straight on the phone and phoned my freind and organised to play golf then dreamt i had fallen back to sleep and then i actually woke up and realised there wasn't a phone in my room and i hadnt phoned my friend :S so overall a pretty wierd/successful first attempt at dream recall!
