The Bright Side's journal (sometimes dark^^)

And here goes another one! I guess for now, I'll just be putting my dreams out there... Never had a dream journal before, so I'm curious to see where it leads.

Today's dream: burning birds and severed limbs

EW it's so sick. I have two alarm clocks, one that wakes me around 6:25 and another one that wakes me again at 6:50. Between them, I experienced this.

      Part 1: The Accident.

Road trip. I remember bing in some car on the road (vegetation would indicate Germany or Canada, forests and pastures) and listening to the radio. There's a report about an accident and at its end, they ask some kind of question about how the car that was in the accident could have gotten to the position where it ended up. Subsequently, the same kind of accident happens to me, there's a large truck involved and somehow we (there's another dude driving my car, I'm in the passenger seat, alternately watching the scenes unfold as a movie and being in them first-hand) seem to try to dodge the truck, then we're next to it, kind of overtaking, then in front of it and it's now across the road, sliding towards us - we get caught under the trailer. which then proves how the accident from the radio happened.

      Part 2: The Cops.

I remember afterwards there's some sort of conversation with the truck driver, I think he's talking to some cops, standing in the streets when in the middle of it, my driver (now I can see him clearly, he's a bearded guy, never seen him before in my waking life) punches the truck driver in the face repeatedly. This has no effect on him, in fact, he just keeps right on talking to the cops.

Something else happens afterwards, but I have no clear recollection of it, I just remember getting into some sort of talk with the guy/people from the truck and seeing the inside of the truck's cockpit, which has no seats in it for some reason.

      Part 3: Fragments of film.

The road trip continues in something that alternates between RV, bus and family car. I'm witch a bunch of people, I remember one young lady in particular who's sitting in the back of the bus. I have snippets of scenes happening in other places than the road, dark, possibly a castle, and involving the girl. She's a smart and confident one and makes smart and confident comments repeatedly.

      Part 4: Inferno and Mayhem.

Shortly before I wake up, I'm back on the road, watching the scenery roll by by the roadside when I see burning birds (it's a flock, the ones at the front are not on fire) flying off into the sky, next I see they come from burning trees, then I see a bunch of people dragging a burning tree by the roadside, setting fire to the forest with it. I point that out to my parents, who are in the front (seat) of whatever vehicle we're driving. I consider calling the cops on their butts, it's in broad daylight and everything, but then wondering whether they'd get here on time. Through the back window, I see the arsonists wielding chainsaws, and one of them cuts off the arm of another, blood flying and all (I'm a horror movie fan, so I'm never surprised or alienated by explicit gore in my dreams). As the guy at the chainsaw-receiving end turns around, his arm is still attached, which is sort of impossible. He has a huge wound though. I remember thinking I should be pretty shocked now because after all, this is happening "for real" (so much for lucid dreaming). I tell my dad to step on it because of what just happened, at the same time the guys are coming closer. When I look at the road ahead, I see that we just got to the end of a long traffic jam, which puts us in a trap, what with chainsaw-wielding arsonist-psychopaths closing in and all. Somewhere before or after that, the smart and confident girl (dark hair, dressed in black but with some features on her clothes, btw) makes a smart and confident remark.

      Part 5: Consciousness.

As I wake up, already half-conscious, the last thing I tell my dad is to turn the hell around. That's where the dream ends. As I lie awake, I ponder that we're pretty much screwed either way because even if we turn around (the other lane of the road is free), these people could just step in front of us and stop us. But then again, we could run over them. Which might, however, tip the car over.

I decide to get up and start a peaceful-non-violent day

From what I remember, all the dialogues in my dream were in German (my mother tongue). I point that out because I do dream in English a lot, or both E and G.
Gee, I hate dubbed dreams :-D

      Movie references.

There's some horror movie imagery in here, obviously. One movie that I clearly had in mind was Final Destination 2 (the mass accident at the beginning) and/or Premonition (the accident scene at the end, the whole movie builds up to that and the question how and why the accident is going to happen is definitely there, so I think my dream was very much referencing that). When my driver punches the guy in the face, that's a reference to "The Man Who Wasn't There". At the end of that one, a lawyer's courtroom speech is cut short by the defendant's colleague punching the defendant in the face (contrary to my dream, this has a major effect).

Crazy... All this in not more than 10 minutes. When you experience it, it's like nothing (even more than you would expect from 10 minutes of sleep), but typing this out amounts to more than I expected!

      Today's Dream: There goes Dad

It's funny, lately, I had a couple dreams in which family members died. Might be some sort of separation thing now that I live abroad?

Part 1: Brother's done it again.

So at the beginning of this one (at least the part that I remember, I would assume stuff came before that), I come home to my room in Germany together with N., one of my best friends. I live on the third floor of our house, where I have two rooms straight below the roof, a larger one and a smaller one. When we enter the larger one, I see that my brother must have been having another multiplayer party there: sleeping bags and stuff are lying around, the air smells of pizza (in the past, he used to live in the basement, but we had a network of PCs throughout the house, so sometimes his friends would use my computer and a couple more in my room for a party). I'm unnerved about this (come ooon!).

Part 2: The new way of parking cars.

I open my room's window and see a bunch of cars suspended in the air right in front of the outer wall of my house. My father is sitting in his car right below my window, and I instantly realize that he bought one of those "shelf-like" car parking systems I had dreamed about earlier the same night. Basically, it's a bunch of hydraulic platforms attached to a house wall. My father's beaming with joy.

      Part 3: Brutal car action.

I call my friend over: "N, you gotta see this!" My dad goes: "And look what else I can do!", steps on the gas, and the car jumps off the platform down into our yard (which is kind of narrow). It bounces like an off-road jeep would, it's a Lexus limousine, though. Anyhow, the rest of the dream is accompanied by the constant sound of tires screeching. My father's extremely enthusiastic and starts bonking the car through the yard, doing some nifty maneuvers, rushes out into the driveway in front of our house and then into the street. It all looks like a film sped up, it has a bit of a comic book aesthetic. He drives up the small town cobblestone street as we watch from above (now my brother's with me, I assume N. is still there as well, and I'm sort of on the flat roof of our neighbour's house).

Part 4: The lynching of dad.

He runs into four cars going down the same street and tries to zig-zag between them, bounces into a few and they end up chasing him down the street, back where he came from, knocking his car about and pushing him into the small ditch that runs along the lower end of the street. Me, my bro and my friend are shouting in disbelief. Somehow, the angered drivers manage to kill dad in the process, suddenly I see him lying in the street behind his car, which is pretty freaky because it seems like he's in a sort of human-sized casserole dish filled with water, bloated and dead. A person I identify as his brother (he doesn't have a brother) runs up and goes "oh no oh my God H.!"

      Waking time :-)

So the lowdown: father goes too enthusiastic with his love for cars, does some crazy sh!t (which he normally doesn't do, at least not in that kind of way) and gets lynched by an angry car-mob. Huh.

Today's dream: Dead Communication with the other Sex

Hard to get any sense into that dream. I guess the most solid part of it is a German colleague of mine who's present throughout the dream. Much of it takes place in some sort of community place/theater.

      Part 1: No, wait...

Hang on, I just remember sneaking into that venue to steal stuff. I think I steal some sort of soda in cans, and at that point in my dream (an early point), the place is some sort of church venue, and I get caught. It takes place at night. I remember staying on the floor of the building remaining motionless, hoping the two women who pass by outside (I think some sort of church employees) won't see me, but they do.

A bit later, I'm questioned by cops (?). This part is blurry. I think I talk my way out of it.... My car is involved, I hope they won't search it. I have a black little car. Compact. It comes back later in my dream, I think I offer my colleague a ride home. Well let's move on to her anyways.

Part 2: My colleague and her boyfriend?

At another point in my dream, me and some friends ask my young German colleague, all of us still present in that community center, where her boyfriend ("stud") was anyway. She says she prefers not to say, so we tease her a bit, which throws her into an angry rant about how it's none of our business, I think the rant itself has little substance in my dream as far as actual words are concerned, I just remember she's angry and at some later point of it she mentions dating online and how she despises it. So I get the idea of talking about hamsters next, which is a safer subject, but discard voicing it to avoid further upsetting her.

Part 3: My colleague and her French speech

She decides to step up to a mic and tell the truth about her and her boyfriend (I think he might be dead or something), and she gives a speech in French, and she's in tears, she basically speaks her mind loud and clear, but I don't understand a single word. Everybody else around me is dumbfounded and quiet, and I'm there lost in the dark. I never learn what the heck was going on with her.

      Part 4: A new zoo?

There's another snippet where I'm watching some sort of presentation/film in the theater. I remember being behind a curtain. I really have no clear idea... So anyway, the last part takes place into some sort of new zoo/enclosure that some guy (professor) has set up for multiple animal species. He's totally proud of it and presents it to everybody. As I watch, the animals turn into humans (well they're animals first, but then they're humans. There's no point of transformation, you know how it is in dreams), and then it's some kind of gathering/event for young people where they stay in that place for some reason. A woman shows me a part of the building where people can do physical exercise ("cardio"). A fat guy is running on a treadmill, and I think "you've got some way to go, dude"). And then, there's a girl who wears pink pants, and I wear white ones - we all wear pyjama-like outfits, boys in white-ish light green, girls with pink pants. I talk to her about it, but as I remember, the conversation doesn't lead anywhere, she turns away. I remember very clearly that this part of the dream is about how I cannot keep a girl's attraction or interest up.

Come to think of it, that's probably what I'm dealing with in this entire dream. Lately, in real life, there have been a couple girls that were interested in me or friendly, but when I went out with them or talked with them some more, they lost interest and I now get the impression that they're no longer particularly eager to be in contact with me. Another one has been cutting conversations short since I first spoke to her (gave her a compliment because her hair looked kinda cool that day). I never really understoond the finer dynamics going on here, I think this dream is about how I cannot communicate with women. The fact that both of my German colleague's speeches were muddled and not understandable says a lot.

      Today's dream: Stealing Chicken

Okay this is clear and simple. All I remember is stealing breaded chicken from a seller at a festival in an idyllic European-style (French?) village. I'm there with my parents, and they're cool with it.

I tried to remember more of this night's dream, but it evaporated when I woke up because I have a friend staying over and her presence drew me right into the day, so my thoughts jumped in right away.

      Today's Dream: Substance Abuse Competition

Today's dream is massive because I could sleep in and woke up a couple times during the morning, and every time I feel back asleep the dream went on.

So it's largely set in a ski resort where a competition is happening... I think you're supposed to design a theme for t-shirts or jackets that revolves around substance abuse. The thing is, the competition changes back and forth, at some points it's an exam I have, at other points, it's about setting up an an online dating profile. I remember being under pressure to finish it, and I screw up several things... There's a patch that I designed that can be put on a t-shirt, but it turns out when it's on the shirt, the writing is mirrored, i.e. the wrong way around. I'm also creating a larger part to go on the lower part of a shirt, in fact, during the dream, this part develops into a full-blown movie with plot and CGI that has to be rendered.

The whole dream has some tension in it, like a thriller, but I don't know exactly why. There's a sense of urgency. Probably because of the deadline. Oh yeah, I miss the deadline, too, because the film/CGI part takes too long. I also remember stuff becoming catastrophic, with murderers and flames. The murderer from "Changeling" (which I watched yesterday, incredibly good movie) makes an appearance.

Okay, that's the lowdown. I'd say there's more details, but I cannot go into them right now cos I don't have the time.
