      Post Volus's Dream Journal

I've just been looking into lucid dreaming today, and I have decided on a progression:

      1. Remember my dreams. Although I do on occasion, I usually don't. I blame this on being to preoccupied with beginning my day to think about what I just dreamed.
      2. Become lucid in my dreams. Being able to know that I'm dreaming, and to actually control myself in my dream will be a huge step. If it doesn't progress past here, I'll be okay with it.
      3. Control my dreams. Controlling the course of my dreams in ways other than standard human actions would be great. What I mean by this is being able to summon items and people, and change the course of events in ways I wouldn't normally be able to by simply lucid dreaming.

So, we'll see how it goes. I plan on thinking very strongly to myself before I go to bead tonight, to try to get myself to stay completely still when I wake up. I will have a dream journal present by my bedside, as well. For the heck of it, I will also be attempting the DILD technique, just in case I am unnaturally good at lucid dreaming.

I like to think of lucid dreaming like The Matrix. Anything can happen or occur, as long as you think it will. Of course, lucid dreaming is likely quite a bit more difficult than that, but I still draw the connection.

My greatest concern at this moment (besides that it simply won't work) is that I will be to excited to sleep. I'll do my best to focus on meditating for ten or fifteen minutes before going to sleep, then saying some mantras in my head.

      Wish me luck

Well, as expected, I didn't have any lucid dreams last night. Or, if I did, I can't remember them now. I usually remember nothing of my dreams, but I can now remember little bits and pieces. I would have remembered more of them, if only I hadn't forgotten to put my dream journal next to my bed . I had three distinct dreams (I woke up, of my own accord, right after REM cycles).

      Dream 1
I remembered a LOT more of this one when I first woke up than I do now.

I was sitting in some sort of room with another boy my age, and he was showing me something that looked like a walnut, and saying that it was dangerous. Then, suddenly, we were flying over some sort of city, and he dropped the walnut-thing on some sort of large building.

And then my memory of the dream cuts out. Not because I woke up, I don't think, but instead because I forgot my dream journal.

      Dream 2
I remembered it when I woke up, but not now.

      Dream 3
      Ditto.

I remembered most of my dream last night
At first, when I woke up, I couldn't remember a thing, and got really mad. A few seconds later, however, after lying back down in an attempt to get into the position I woke up in, I started to remember my dream. It was really strange, the way I remembered it, because it wasn't an "Oh, I remember than now" kind of moment - it was a more "Oh, that was a dream..." sort of moment. The second that happened, I grabbed my dream journal, and started writing away.

      Dream 1
The dream starts with this huge, golden alien mothership landing on Earth somewhere. It had all these strange golden tentacles, and it just sort of sprawled across this big patch of rocky land. Then, this strange (humanoid) alien comes out of a little pod that lands, and we start shooting at him with some sort of experimental laser weapon. He doesn't seem to care, and instead just...does something...to make everyone stop attacking him and run away. He says that he's a berserker, and that he's been sent to kill everyone he sees. I try to fight him a whole lot, but I can only remember half-second clips of that, and I really couldn't say for sure what happened. It ended with him winning, and me running away.

Then I came back with this really strange thing for defeating the mothership. It was part hat, and part breastplate. It was golden, and covered from about my mid-chest to the top of my head, where it extended at least a foot, and came to what would've been a point had there not been a large hole at the top. So, I lean over, point the top of the hat at the mothership, and somehow fire this blue orb of energy, which causes the mothership to take off an fly away.

Throughout this whole ordeal, a smaller alien has been running around trying to eat things. He ends up trying to eat the experimental laser weapon, and explodes. The berserker is somehow defeated as well, but I can't remember it.

I woke up a few other times last night, and thought I couldn't remember them, so I just went back to sleep. I now know that I probably could've, had I just been a bit more patient. I guess I'll try again tonight!

I'm no expert, but if you can somewhat clearly remember what you did, you are probably remembering your dream.

Even if you can't actually see images of your dream, you can still be remembering it. Some people just don't think or remember visually.

Don't be discouraged if what you imagine (a place, etc.) is similar to identical to something in real life - your dreams are drawn from real experiences, so it's certainly not uncommon.

Have fun, and don't get discouraged!

P.S.: Be patient when remembering your dreams. Lie in bed for several minutes before you decide that you can't remember your dream - it often takes a minute or two for you to actually remember a dream.
