i haven't awoken in dreams for some time, but last night i flew. what more reason can i possibly need?

i was with dear friends, two of whom i visited the previous night. something in their presence lit my spark, and we all knew i had realized my dreaming. i sharpened my dream's focus, and jumped into the air but did not land. the rush of flight shattered my focus, and all faded to gray as i awoke.

next time, i will be ready.

i slept for about six hours last night, and did not set an alarm to coincide with the end of my first REM cycle. i remember nothing. setting the alarm now.

woke up ahead of my alarm with a fading impression of my dream in mind, lost it quickly, returned to bed. will place a dream journal next to the bed, try again.

woke up ahead of my alarm again. journal was under the pillow, and it was barely light enough to scrawl "remember nothing" before returning to sleep. tonight, my phone will illuminate the journal, and my journal will already be open to the page i plan to use.

i woke up several times during the night, but didn't record my dreams until full awakening. the ones i remember all take place in japan, and form a loosely connected narrative. names are changed to protect the unwitting. (commentary in parentheses).

i am in kyoto. i am trying to get on a train, but not sure where i want to go. i notice aki, a tokyo friend; she tells me she is going to demachiyanagi. the doors close, and i can't get on. i enter the next train, but as it pulls away from the station, i notice i have left my razor scooter on the bench in the waiting area.

i am in an apartment building; possibly yasuko's. she is there, at any rate. she is cold to me, despite our history. there is another man. i take some bananas from the fridge and eat them. i am casually bitter.

i enter an izakaya. the decor is similar to A Bar in kyoto; long tables, amiable lighting, everything wood. yasuko is there again, in the corner with the other man. a japanese guy next to me explains the bar scene. "everyone has a good time together here! sometimes we get loud, but don't be fooled; it's the women who run everything." i offer to trade yasuko for the lady sitting next to him, and he laughs. another guy sitting across from me mumbles something, and despite my education i can't understand him. one of my current roommates, nathan, interprets: "he says yasuko isn't that kind of friend to you anymore." nathan says something else about the japanese man in purposefully elaborate english, to confuse the casual eavesdropper. i wake up.
