I had the same thoughts the first time I had a lucid dream. I spent ages trying to figure out if it was possible to dream you were having a lucid dream (but not actually be having one). Mostly it just made my head hurt, but in the end I put it down to the fact that there are probably just different degrees of lucidity and vividness in dreams.

"My theory is that because it was a dream inside of a dream, I was simply dreaming of having a dream that was a LD without actually having one. Make sense?"
