      Dream Recall

Not sure if this is in the right place but I was wondering...

Has anyone got any good tips for remembering dreams? What works well for you? On average I remember two per night with only fragments of others. Tips would be appreciated.

Get a dream journal. I just found out a technique today, kind of by accident. If you are having trouble remembering a dream, go up to a window in the morning, the one where you can flip the blinds up and down really fast. Do this while still groggy, and go from closed to open repeatedly. This shocked me into recall of a dream that I had forgotten. Then immediately write down what you see. Also, telling your self before you go to bed "I want to remember my dreams", and then go to sleep helps. Also, if you are having major major trouble, the herb Silene Capensis does wonders for dream recall. I suggest you research.

All of experience is fun for me, whether in a dream, or in reality, because I love existing, learning, and continuously evolving and sustaining. Then again, who knows, I may not enjoy existing so much if I caught a face full of buckshot from an angry farmer. But hey, at least I'd got out with a bang.

Well I think the most well known and obvious answer is to start a dream journal. Its only recently that I've actually joined Dream Views and started being able to remember my dreams. Even just a month ago I too could only remember fragments. Just start writing a dream journal daily as soon as you get up, even if its just fragments. Try writing down anything that you can remember. Eventually, because your brain starts storing dreams in the long term memory part of the brain it will become easier to recall dreams.

I have a dream journal and I also tell myself before I sleep that I'll remember my dreams. I have been consistently recalling more and more so I guess I'll stick with that. However, I'll try your suggestion, Moto, thanks. Cheers for the replies =]

Just telling other people about your dreams can help a bunch. While the conversation may be horribly dull for the other person, it's worth it.
(me: hey! last night, I had this crazy dream about CATS!
      other person: ... thats great.)

I also recommend you read the dream recall tutorial in the wiki. It has tons of information, that will definitely help you! Good luck!

I've kept a dream journal for a while now (~1997) but lately I've had extreme trouble with recall. I don't have blinds that flip as suggested, but I do have a flash light I can click on and off. My wife willthink I've gone mad if she sees me at 0530 flipping a flash light on and off in my face but it's worth a shot. Aside from the wiki suggestions does anyone have any that are, less conventional? I do take a vitamin called Senine Serene which is supposed to help with easy into meditative states and sleep.

I don't really know how I got my dream recall. I think it's just a matter of regular pracctise. When you keep a Dream Journal you will get in the habit of trying to remember your dreams, and soon you will wake up and just remember them like a normal memory. I don't use the lay still on awakening thing to remember my dreams, although before I get up I take notes of what I can remember.

I am sure you will start to remember your dreams soon. =)
