Where to start with dream signs?

As I've only just started exploring lucid dreaming, I've read through the guides and it says the best start is to start keeping a dream journal, and then you can find your dream sign. I was wondering if I should record some older dreams I've had that I still remember and stick with me, or should I start afresh from now? Does it matter either way?

Start with all the dreams that you can remember and examine them for strange occurences.

There are strong and weak dreamsigns, according to Dr. Laberge. A dreamsign is something that indicates probability of dreaming.

If you have strong recurring dreamsigns (for example dreams of you being unprepared for an exam at school after graduating from school), it does not matter when these occured, in the recent dreams or not. Malfunctioning devices is a good dreamsign, regardless of the dream age.

For example one of my dreamsign is weapons and fighting with them. I do not do so frequently in the waking world, so for me firing a weapon is a strong probability that I'm dreaming.

Other dreamsigns involve different patterns of thinking (for example confusion).

For a dreamsign to help you, it must be consistently present in dreams.

That's great, thank you. I'm having some trouble recalling my dreams when I wake up so I think it might help give me a kick start if I recall old dreams that have stuck with me. When I think about them and some fragments of dreams from a few nights ago, my dreams always seem to have pathways or corridors recurring in them, whether I'm just looking at a corridor or walking down a path. Reading through other peoples dream signs though, I'm not sure this is my dream sign or not. Well, better get started with my DJ and find out
