I cannot remember any of my dreams when I get up

I was wondering if there is a easier way to remember (recall) my dreams in the morning. I go to sleep around 3:30-4:00 AM & wake up around 12:00-2:00 PM central time. I never get less than 8 hours of sleep. I rarely sleep over 10 hours. But when I wake up I will close my eyes and not move trying to remember my dream but I can never remember my dream. lately I have just been remembering me in a dream but nothing else just me without no scenary or background. I was wonding if you could help me recall my dreams. I can if I have to set my alarm to go off whenever. I just hope you can help me.

it may help to just will yourself to remember your dreams before bed. tell and convince yourself that you wake up and remember some of your dreams. as time goes by you will remember more and more.

also, if u remember any previous dreams youve had in the past, try and recall them completely. it will help u stimulate your dream memory. i know when i first built my recall i used this method.

Recall involves the art of remembering, once you get into the routine of remembering things during the day your recall is greatly increased during the night.

....Sit down at the end of the day with a piece of paper and try and recall all the things you have done today that 'stand out' and write them down in some detail:-

"Today I walked home from work and i really enjoyed looking at the trees and the feeling I felt when the wind blew them and made an interesting noise".

Trying to piece together and evoke dreams is really easy once you start to focus more on recall and imulate that same feeling "what did i dream about that stood out" - which leads onto writing a dream journal even if its one word its always a good starting point.

Its all about personal practices "whatever works best for you".

Sit in bed, close your eyes and think about what you were dreaming even if you cant remember, something 'insignificant' will arise that will lead to more recall, like another piece of the puzzle finding its place.
"I was looking back to see if you were looking back at me to see me looking back at you".

      Recall

      Hi,

I just getting back into LDing after not thinking about it for many years. I am also trying to improve my recall and finding it difficult. i wake up a lot in the night anyway, always have, which usually means I am too knackered to write anything down. i find my best chance of an LD or recall is if I fall asleep again about an hour before its time to get up.

if I am really battling to recall i find lying there thinking about random things usually triggers something, i think when your brain is still sleepy it eventually goes back to what you were dreaming about.

      good luck.

before i goto bed i say to myself out loud 'i am going to fall asleep, i am going to dream, and i am going to remember my dreams' and then i think it a few times before i fall asleep, i also drink a glass of water before going to bed. I have been doing this for maybe two weeks, and for the last week i have been waking up multiple times a night just after my dreams finish, and i have quite good recall of them. If your having trouble remembering this method may work.

WCF, maybe you are sleeping too long. It's been stated many times on this forum that you have a built in "dream memory eraser" that works as the night goes on. What I'm proposing is you break up the 8-10 hours into shifts of two to four hour shifts. This is what I do. I naturally wake up one to four times a night, typically two or three. I tend to wake up in multiples of two hour intervals, usually right after a dream ends. From here, I type it on the computer, use the bathroom if necessary, and go back to sleep.

This helps because you only have to remember the dream for ten minutes, instead of up to six hours, or more. I have trouble remembering dreams if I sleep for over six hours in a row (usually when I stay up late). Similar to what waking_life just said.

try breaking a dream cycle by waking up during it.

set an alarm to wake up during a cycle and then see what happens.

I find the method last stated to be most helpful. I had this problem too, and setting an alarm or asking a sibling or parent to do so is quite helpful.

When I force myself to go to sleep before I am really tried I can recall my dreams great. When I do force myself to sleep I usually have some kind of lucid dream. But in doing this it screws with my sleep cycle and I can't get to sleep the next night.

Several of our Dreamers have had a great success with Negative Reinforcement, that is, on mornings when they would wake up without any dream recall, they would give themselves a few moderately painful slaps on the arm or on their leg, giving the body some discomfort in exchange for its failure to remember any Dreams. The body soon learns its lesson, and one finds one's self waking up with plenty of dream memories and an arm and a leg that are breathing sighs of relief.
