Difference Between Action and Context?

Hi,

In a lot of my dreams, I find myself doing things that are very unusual, like cooking something in the middle of a supermarket, driving at night with no lights on, using a shopping bag as a memory storage device, etc.

So I’m wondering, what type of dream sign is this according to the inner awareness/form/action/context categories. I’m thinking it’s either some kind of action or context, but I’m not sure on the differences between them; they seem to be very similar.

Any ideas? Thanks

In an action dreamsign, Something or someone functions or behaves differently to how it would in real life. In a context dreamsign, you are in an unusual or impossible situation, e.g. you are somewhere you never or rarely go in reality, e.g. another planet, or there are objects or people around you that don't belong where you are, e.g a couch on the middle of the road.

Cooking in the middle of the supermarket - I would think this is more a Context dream sign, but it depends HOW you were cooking it. if you cook in real life, and you cook it as you would in real life using normal kitchen equipment, it is Context because it isn't the action itself that is unusual but you are in a strange location for it. If however you used fire magic or something then it is an ACTION dream sign because what you did physically was unusual.

Driving at night with no lights on = Technology malfunctioning, which is an action Dreamsign because the lights are acting differently to real life
Using a shopping bag as a memory storage device = A bit vague, but probably an Action dream sign (You are using the bag differently to real life)

Wow sorry for the late reply, 13WARO8T. I started this thread so long ago I’d almost completely forgotten about it!

About the cooking in a supermarket, yes I can see how this would be a clear context DS. The two events are indeed not unusual, but the combination is. I get quite a lot of these ‘context’ DS’s. It could really be anything, including people, things etc. being in places I wouldn’t see them in reality etc. and of course the strange combinations.

That makes sense. I suppose these ‘action’ dream signs can be very hard to detect sometimes -- it can be something obvious (e.g. something floating in mid air) or something very small and difficult to notice (like the lights). But I agree, I think with ‘action’ it really comes down to anything which is acting in a way different to reality.

Ha yes, this was a strange one alright.

But yes I can see now how this would also be action. Similar to the car with no lights on, it isn’t doing something it should be doing, like carrying groceries perhaps.
