      The title says it all.

I rarely take naps during the day but when I do I think I remember more of my dreams. Today, I had a dream that I was walking in a local town except it seemed like a city in some cold state (I remember thinking Alaska) though today's temperature in reality was over 100.

I was walking around looking for a place to eat but admiring the beautiful frozen scenary.

The next moment I was walking into what seemed like a house that had been turned into a restaurant though I do not remember walking up to the house itself. The interior was dark though enough life crept through for me to see people seated at tables, being helped by a waitress.

A hostess walked up to me, and I told her I wanted to eat. She was quite bubbly and cheerful though not overly so. She talked about everything except getting me a table, and the one thing she said to me that stood out (because it was completely out of context) was "If Atlanta's (she said Atlanta not Alaska) water supply freezes then they will have ten years of water over 20 years".

I had no idea what that meant but it was so out of place that I remembered it.

The reason I am posting this is because the dream made me realize how most if not all of the dreams I remember have two consistent elements

      - they are always dark
      - I cannot see clearly. most things are blurred and I tend to get frustrated

As a child, I used to dream that when I wanted to fly fast I could only hover a few feet off the ground and then I got stuck in the air.

Has anyone else ever experienced this or know what it could possible mean?

I feel like darkness and being unfocused seems to be a lifetime theme whose meaning escapes me.

I have had blurred vision once in a dream. It sure was annoying. It must suck for you to experience this in most of your dreams.

As for the water comment in the dream, I don't really know. But perhaps it meant that the amount of water consumed by Alaska's people during 10 years will be available during 20 years, which means there will just be half of the water available to drink in Alaska under that period of time. So perhaps you are worried about Alaska for some reason.

I hope that made sense. It was quite a wild guess.

I know exactly what you are talking about - the same thing happens to me sometimes. But what a good dream sign, right?

Train yourself to realize that every time you have foggy vision or it's really dark, do a reality check. Check out the reality check tutorial for more info.

First of all I have to admire your amazing ability to dream about cold places when it's over 100 degress on you. I sure didn't, despite the ice pack.
Second Alaska is more abundant in water than any other state, so you need not have nightmares about them running out.

Now, as for the themes, darkness is not knowing, and the blurred vision is not seeing. These are your two frustrations in life. You want to know more about everything, and you want to perceive better what is going on and what you see. Hope that helps.

Are your curtains blocking all the light that comes into your room? Did you have this dream late at night? I've found that the light level in dreams can correspond with the actual light level in your room at the time. A solution to the darkness would be to open up the curtains a little. As for the blurriness and being unfocussed, I must say that it is very hard to have a lucid where the outside world does NOT look like some watered-down version of reality. It is not impossible, but I've only had one experience in my entire life where a lucid was just as clear as real life. Focus (in senses as well as in thoughts) is something that's very hard to achieve in a lucid, you should not be worried that your dreams are not perfect.

Thanks to everyone who posted. Good comments they were and each made me think.

You're right that the out of focus dream is a great dream sign, and also "darkness is not knowing, and the blurred vision is not seeing" made me think as well.

This dream happened while napping during the evening though it was still daylight outside.

I need to read up more on lucidity as it's been a while since I had any achievement (1998 actually). It just seemed that the more I grasped at it the more it slipped though my fingers, but I am more than willing to try again!

      Thanks again.
