I think I had my first lucid dream last night. I can remember pretty clearly my first realization that I was dreaming (I was climbing a small tree and realized that there was absolutely no way it could be supporting my weight and I must be dreaming, for anybody who cares.) And I remember what I did in this dream, but I can't remember it any better and it doesn't feel any different than a normal dream when I look back on it.

Summary: When recalled, do lucid dreams seem any different than regular ones? (Other than the fact that you knew you were dreaming.)

      Thanks.

Well, I'll start off by saying that that was definetly a lucid dream.

Because you are concious in lucid dreams, they are easier to remember and will stay in your memory for longer. In non lucids you are not concious and it will be easier to forget them, and they will dissapear from your memory shortly. Lots of times I'll remember the lucid part of the dream but forgot what I did at the beggining of the dream before I became lucid.

You should try boosting your dream recall, by training your memory (thinking of things you did throughout the day), drinking lots of water RIGHT before bed, and keep a dream journal (if you haven't already).

Also, it might help to wake yourself up when instict tells you the dream will end soon. If you wake up during a dream the details are much easier to remember and you dream recall skill won't matter.

Well it depends on your perspective.

On one hand you have: "Well, I'm dreaming. Cool."

On the other hand you have: "Wow, I'm consciously experiencing a world created entirely by my mind (or another plane of existence, whichever you believe) and here, I am able to take part in any experience imaginable."

Basically, if you look at it with a lack of imagination, it's going to be every bit as mundane as your waking life.

Personally, whenver I'm lucid, depending on the level of my awareness (Yes, there are levels) my senses usually sharpen because my focus is instantly drawn to my surroundings. But, like I said, there are levels. Some times my lucids are just as fleeting and hazy as normal dreams.

It definately felt different at that moment of realization. Now that I look back on it, I'm fairly sure I was lucid. I think I know what happened now.

      Dream Summary:

I became lucid upon realizing that the small tree in my front lawn that I had just climbed to the top of was WAY to skinny to support my weight so I must be dreaming. After that I went around to the back with the intent of trying out a few things. One thing I've been very interested in is getting myself a sword in my dreams, ever since I first heard about lucid dreaming (a week or two ago) I've thought that that would be a really neat goal. Upon reaching my backyard I think I was at a low level of awareness, as Oneironaut said. I kind of knew I was dreaming, but I didn't do too much to act on that information. I saw two dream characters fighting a little ways off and I knew that they were dream characters, but I didn't try to do anything about them. After trying a few things ranging from pulling a sword out of thin air at my belt to inducing a need for a sword by getting the dream characters to attack me (this didn't work too well because they were attacking me with foam noodles... the kind you take to the pool >_> Obviously, there's no need for a sword against those...) I tried dreaming spinning to get the environment to change in such a way that I would have a sword. But that only brought me to some random cafe that was was later attacked by aliens much resembling Ant Lions from Half-Life 2 O_o. I'm sure I lost my lucidity upon changing my scenery.

I'm going to try to become lucid again tonight and mantain lucidity better this time.

      What I'm going to try:
Keeping the thought "I'm dreaming" running in my head.
Getting the sword by "remembering" I put it somewhere.
Verbal commands, I didn't use any in this dream.
Doing a better job of inducing need.

Well its possible to forget lucid dreams just like normal dreams. Lucid dreams tend to be easier to recall but thats not always the case. So its entirely possible to have a lucid dream that seems almost exactly like a normal dream.

I had a similar experience in my first lucid dream. What helped me trying to remember specific feelings I had in the lucid dream and comparing them to a normal one. The lucid feelings for me were much stronger.
