      Mosh's Dream Recall Tutorial.

      HI!

Are you interested in having dreams that are as long as the one below?
      Spoiler for Long ass Dream.:

How about a night with 7 and maybe even up to 13 dreams like this:

Spoiler for Night of 13 dreams:

Ok then. Since your still here. I wanna tell you to NOT be amazed. I believe everyone can have this kind of recall when they work at it enough.

Waking Nomad asked to write this tutorial. Most of my methods for recall have already been posted around. I just kind of mix them up a little.
      Before bed

What I do is Grab a journal book with lined paper. You know the kind you can find at a dollar store. I write 20-40 LINES In the PRESENT TENSE of Mantras for Dream recall. I typically write "I remember ALL of my dreams"
I have a page that looks like this:

I also write 20 or more mantras for lucidity. THEN, While I lay in bed I run throough my mind what Kind of dreams that I want to have. I also use a basic meditation breathing exercise which only lasts a few minutes:

Basic Kriya Yoga - Microcosmic Orbit

Breath in while visualizing energy going up the spine to the back of the head. Hold in a moment. Breath out visualizing the energy continuing the circle to the front of the body downwards back to the bottom of the spine. Hold out a moment. Repeat 24 times.

Follow by some time in silent awareness, even if only for 10-15 minutes.

One hour and a half is recommended. Two would be even better.

If there is a daily practice, 12 repetitions can be added to the mix every month.

Quality of Intent is everything in this practice.

If any pain or discomfort is felt stop and fix the physical or energetic imbalance before continuing.
Balance and honesty devoid of ambition is the way to not get hurt.

For more info about this practice and similes, get Kriya Yoga, Kundalini Yoga and Taoist Yoga literature.

I know some of you are thinking "Is this meditation crap really gonna help?" or. "Meditation... how lame! It takes too long"

The answer is YES! It does help. It doesn't take long to take 24 breaths while visualizing energy going up and down your spine. Whether you believe or not in energetic practices makes no difference - It's The effort that you put into it yields results. I tried for months before bed saying to myself in my head "I remember all of my drreams" for months. Not enough effort, therefore, I got no results.

Waking up in between sleep cycles

Nothing here that you haven't already read. To review:

Set an alarm clock for a few hours into the night. Do this EVERY night for a few weeks to a month until you naturally wake up in the middle of the night. Another method is to drink a little bit before bed (Water juice, or milk, you fool. Alcohol generally kills my recall). so you can wake up when you need to go.

When you wake up: It took me a few tried NOT to fall back asleep. But generally just lay there.. don't get too comfortable or you may fall back asleep. Ask yourself: What did I just dream about? if nothing comes.. just wait a few minutes and something may come. I use to wake up and immediately think "Damnit I can't recall my dreams!" and went back to sleep before I even recalled them. DON'T do that!. That's retarded.

Eventually a memory will jump into your conciousness for a second or so. Don't let it go. Focus on the fragment, feel it, Try to relive it. go over it again and again in your mind. You'll find that some more memories will surface. Those fragments turn into dreams. Go over the dream again and again. By now another dream fragment should flash before your memory. then repeat what i said in the first 3 or so sentences of this paragraph. Do this until you've recalled as much as you can possibly remember. you should have around 2 dreams and maybe a handful of fragments. This can take anywhere to 5 minutes or a half an hour.

No you can't fall back asleep just yet. double check all that you can remember BEFORE sitting up, turning on a light, and grabbing a pen and a MEAD notepad (also available at your local dollar or drug store.). Then write the dreams in key point form. put words that are specific so that when you wake up in the morning and look at the words, the dream comes flooding back to you. Sometimes As i jot down these keywords even more dreams will come to me. at the end you should have something that looks like this:

Now, Set your alarm to half an hour before you are supposed to get up and repeat the above of what I told you until you have to get up for real.

      Throughout the day

Pay close attention to otheri things that are happening. Sometimes a subtle things may trigger even more dream recall. After you've journaled for a while you'll notice common dream themes. Write those dream themes down. Look at them in the morning and ask yourself if you dreamed about this theme... It may trigger more memories. My themes often change every few weeks, so I am always making a new list.

Also: keep running the dream memories around in the back of your mind throughout the day.

      Supplements

I mainly use melatonin, b6, or Both. I use them a couple times a week. I have no problem with the use of supplements. They are a TOOL for dream recall. Dreaming is not a SKILL but a SKILL SET. Any number of tools in your skill set will help you. Don't be afraid to throw away or add any more of these tools.

      Rant:

Loaf recently posted in his DV magazine that: supplements are bad because you are paying for dream recall.

I personally think that statement isn't true at all. When i buy a notebook to write dreams down in. I'm buying a tool to help with recall, I'm not paying for recall. If i didn't have a note pad to jot notes down on I'd probably piss my notes in the Canadian snow. Well, since paying for recall is bad. throw out your bed, computer, dream books, ad infinitum.

      Abstract recall:

This is a controversial method of recall. Sometimes there are those fragments that won't reveal any more. run these fragments through your head throughout the day and "make up a story" like a daydream until the dream begins to make sense. Our unconscious minds do contain all of our waking life memories and dream memories. So it is debatable whether you really dreamt those parts or not. I admit to having done it a few times in my journal. and to be honest i don't really like recalling dreams in this fashion. BUT, since I am more open minded to psychic dreaming... There have been instances where one of my "made up dreams" told details about someone I would NEVER either wise have known.

Another way to think of abstract recall is to think of a few fragments as a symbol. And within that symbol is contained ALL of the information in the dream. Imagine reading a few pages of a book. Then imagine all of that information compressed down into a symbol that you would understand. So, that when you look at that symbol, even though it's small... you can "pull" those few pages of information out from that symbol. Abstract recall is exactly like that. You just "pull" all of the information from those small fragments. Try it. you will be amazed!

I have been repeating a mantra in my head, although i thought there was a slight improvement in my recall I found that it was just for one dream. I don't remember multiple dreams a night. In all fairness i've been being a mental slacker. I will probably try writing out the mantras then try that meditation technique. Should I continue repeating mantras in my head? and does the B6 really help? And i can see how that one recall method is iffy. You could just be making stuff up for all you know.

Thanks shred, I haven't really gotten into this stuff yet, but I'm going to start. I have been having lucid dreams for the last 3 months or so maybe 2 or 3 a week but can only remember parts of them. I just got to writing down one I had this morning when I fell back asleep which confused the hell out of me.
