      Tutorials

Intro to lucid dreaming – 3 classes

Lucid dreaming defined – Day 1
Lucid - characterized by clear perception or understanding; rational or sane: a lucid moment in his madness.
      Lucidity is qualified by awareness
Commonly accepted levels of lucidity (Ed Kelog scale)

      Dream content – Day 1
      Day Residue
      Schemas
      Faulty Logic
      False Memories
      Id
      Attention

Assignment: Go through your dream journal and analyse where the content of your dreams comes from. Is it mostly day residue? Do you notice a lot of false memories or faulty logic in them?

      Dream journaling – Day 2
The importance of keeping a journal
      Time-keep

      Dream signs – Day 2
      Universal dream signs
      Individual dream signs
      Themes
      Metaphors and symbolism

      Recall – Day 2
      Note taking beside bed
      Phone, paper, voice recorder
      Middle of the night notes
      Short details vs long ones
Utilizing dream signs to trigger recall
      Lie still
      Sleep mask?
Memory reinforcement – try to play the dream back as you wake up
Stress – the killer of recall
Don’t think about the day ahead
      Leave extra time for journaling

Assignment: Go through your dream journal and see if you can notice any reoccurring signs that are popping up. Make a list!
Bonus marks: Find out which sign occurs the most and incorporate reality checking to the sign into your daily routine.

Basic sleep science – Day 3
Sleep cycles – how they work
Slow wave sleep gets shorter as REM gets longer

      Induction techniques – Day 3
      DILD, MILD
      WILD, DEILD
      Pros and cons
Brief overview of how to do each – very brief!
      Recognizing INRALDs and False Awakenings

Assignment: Review your current sleep schedule. Taking what you know about DILDs and WILDs, which technique would best work for you for inducing lucid dreams?
Bonus: Knowing this, you may want to look into signing up for that specific course when it’s offered next

      Dream Control – 1 class/Day 4

      How it relates to lucidity
      Control does not equal lucidity
Lucidity level – it’s easier with a lower level? Don’t overthink things!
      The effect of belief

      Types of control
      Passive
      Active
      Examples of each
      Dream incubation
      Manifestation
      Using your senses
      Paying attention (or not)
      Scene changing techniques

      Goals, Tasks and Challenges
Why do them? Gives a direction for your lucidity so you’re not standing around too long
My tip for remembering goals – Journaling

Assignment: Think of 2-3 goals that you would like to accomplish. They could be anything! If you need some inspiration, check out some tasks from the Task of the Month forum. How would you attempt each goal?

The tutorials will be posted on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and next Monday.

      Passing Requirements

All four assignments must be complete, in full.

Students must keep a dream journal for the duration of this course.
      - If you cannot recall anything for that day, you should write that you were unable to recall anything and describe the methods used to attempt your recall.

Attending the live chat is optional, but definitely recommended. Chat logs will be posted.

You are welcome to sign up and attend future classes as many times over as you feel necessary.
