Hi all. My name is Grian and I'm 29 years old. I am rather spiritual and first discovered the concept of lucid dreaming over 10 years ago during my studies. The one and only time I remember being successful was about 8 years ago. I also thought perhaps I astral projected once, but that could very well have been a lucid dream too. All I know for sure is that I was aware of being outside of myself and in control.

Over the past few weeks I've been making sure to write down my dreams and my recall has improved quite a bit. I do experience dry spells of no recall at all at times though.

My major obstacle may be finding the right RC technique for me. I can't seem to get to that point in any of my dreams. Lucidity feels like it may be just beyond my reach. My dreams are vivid and I remember many details. Now I just need to take some control.

Thanks so much for the forum. I can't wait to get to know some of the regulars and hopefully take in some valuable advice.

Cheers!
Cheers, Grian

Hi - and Welcome!

Regarding Reality Checks - its a tool to help encourage the realisation that you are dreaming in a dream, by creating an RC habit that may carry over to sleep - which would be a kind of Dream Initiated Lucid Dream - DILD. However it may not be for everyone! Lots of people, myself included, do RCs and have never done one spontaneously in a dream, only after realising its a dream - and then only to confirm this or to stabilise/ increase lucidity. In this case the dreamer becomes lucid due to a general sense of unreality - which may be encouraged by honing the senses generally, and also 'present-centeredness' (Being here now...) in waking life.

A theory I'm exploring at the moment is that dream induction methods work best if they are in a accord with your personal psychological (or I guess spiritual) traits. There's a link to a post about VAK (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic) tests and RCs in my signature and here:

LINK to VAK test post

Once you know what VAK mode you are you can select an appropriate method from this list.

LINK - Fine tuning your RC

Regarding spiritual methods - I'm no expert here (trying to teach myself Tibetan Dream Ygga)- but depending on your belief system you may find some methods in the beyond dreaming section.

Good Luck - there's loads of excellent tutorials and with the search function you are bound to find a discussion somewhere on almost any aspect of dreaming you could consider.

If not just ask!!!

Hi Grian and welcome to Dv

I wouldn't say LDing is beyond your reach you did have ine when you were 8, thats more thats more then what some people may have had. Well you seem to know what you are doing, which is good! If you need any extra information you should check out The Tutorials Section.

Also you just need to be patient with the RCs, it might take some time for them to cross over into your dreams.

Well good luck and see you around

I took the test and it turns out I am VKA - so I guess visual reality checks are more for me. I came up with the idea of looking at a rather abstract tattoo that I have on the inside of my wrist and of looking at my hands (which have quite a few rings on them). I think this combination of abstraction and realism might work for me. I'll let you know. Thanks for the help.

I've been having some great dreams lately - none of them lucid - but pretty good nontheless. It's too bad they're a little on the racey side because I'd love to utilize the dream journal aspect of the boards. My ultimate goal with lucid dreaming is to exercise my fantasy and my spiritual life. Right now, I think I'm more interested in having some fun more than anything else.

What do you consider to be the right motivation for lucid dreaming? Does it matter?
Cheers, Grian

V or K are worth a shot then! It just a theory, but its bearing up so far and seems quite reasonable/ obvious!

Of course everyone is different - e.g. people report all kinds of symptoms when wilding - and others get none.

IMO keeping a Dream Diary is one of the best LD induction methods.

RE Racy dreams - Its one of the most obvious things to do in an LD! And killing zombies - which always seems to be popular with the younguns.
