      [MILD-1] The King's WorkBook

Since I am in two classes at the moment, my entries will be quite similar for my dream posts. I plan to do a straight copy-paste for the sake of accuracy.

      09.19:

Strange dream that I can't really describe. I can remember being in California (I've never been) with multiple dreams connected to this premise. I can remember traveling, but I can't remember much else. It felt extremely vivid at the time.

      9/20:

Was quite sick today (migraine, I believe), and thus, I slept a lot. My dreams were scattered, and bordered on realistic flashes more than anything. I can't recall much now other than I did dream vividly, but the headache I had after made it hard to recall for long =(

Odd dream where I was with a woman I've never seen before. The dream was strange because while dark I could see everything...

I've been feeling tired and stressed out lately. Hopefully, I can get release.

      9.21:

I dreamt of a violent war scene. The action was similar to that of a video game, and I could see shells flying as I shot my gun, and smell the gun powder.

My best recall came from me lying completely still and just remembering. I think between my alarms, I fell back into a dream. I need to practice over the weekend when I don't have work.

I'm excited about my first MILD session. I've attempted MILDing, but I can't grasp the instructions online so well, so a deeper explanation may be exactly what I need.

      9.22:

Interesting flash dreams last night. I can remember one where I was playing a video game with my mind. The objective of the game was to clear a board of blocks. The intriguing part was one of my friends' boyfriend was there with a friend of his (one I've never seen), upset that she recently left him. I never liked him, so him turning to me for support was interesting.

The next flash was possibly Heroes inspired as Season 1 antagonist Bennett played a role. I had to kill people coming after me, then upload their deaths to a network, then I received "credit." While leaving, a woman stopped me demanding I let her show the house since she said I was planning to sell, but I wasn't.

I woke up this morning feeling... off. This means one of the dreams I remember (or don't remember in detail) contained something that if true would make me unhappy. I'm not sure why I get these feelings, but I know they are consistent. For example, I remember one dream where I murdered a homeless man, and I woke up terrified that I killed someone, couldn't fix it, and would surely go to jail. It's not a pleasant sensation at all.

I'm going to include a summary tonight of the class I missed, so I can keep myself caught up. Unfortunately, bad news always puts me in a bad mood.

No recall. I think I may have had a small snippet of being late for work because I snapped awake when I first heard my alarm. I need to take more control in the mornings, but I was feeling extremely tired last night. I have the next 3 days off, so I will probably try napping a lot and go WILD.

With my back issues being complicated, I think the stress of that killed my recall. I need to practice meditating before sleeping now.

Will do! Interesting dreams last night!

      9/24 - 9/25:

I went to sleep extremely early due to being exhausted from work. One of my core dreams was from a horror book I read (I believe). As the dream continued to complicate itself, it resembled a video game. At some point, I woke up while it was still dark, and I attempted to WILD, but failed because I just crashed. More dreams similar to the previous one, so I successfully re-entered THAT dream. This morning, I was sleeping when the phone rang. That woke me up, but I went lie back down. Then I started seeing visions similar to dreams, but I was completely awake. The vision came quickly, and I had some control over them (I could look down for example), but they were different because I could tell they were thin dreams. Interesting night indeed. During one, I started a mantra of "I am dreaming," and that brought me a bit deeper into the dream, but it was so unstable, that any movement took me out.

I need to test this more.

I successfully recalled dreams I forgot initially!

First, I was on a racetrack in an omniscience third person perspective. I could look down and see everyone and everything. For some reason, on top of a very large racetrack or roller coaster track, I was following some guy who just broke up with his girlfriend while my dad stopped to see you could buy Heisman Trophies. The dream skipped forward to us all driving away, underwater in race cars. We drive to a hotel where I entered the thoughts of the guy who broke up with his girlfriend. Later, I meet two friends online, one who is in Japan, having a conversation.

I was really excited that I managed to pull that much detail out of dreams I completely forgot!

Interesting night, yet again. I can recall interacting with more people, but I couldn't attain lucidity. In the early stages of sleep, I kept being jolted awake as if I was being startled. I've had this experience before when I lived at my parents house, and I would wake up from a nightmare, and feel a presence in the room. When I finally entered the dreamplane, I met people who told me I was safe and not to panic.

I woke up several times last night, and as soon as I did, I focused on re-entering the dream and repeating a mantra "I will go back into my dreams." They worked (mantra or not), and the dreams always restarted from where I was. Before sleeping, I was in a pretty great mood, so maybe that helped.

While clinging to the scraps of dreams I had while sleeping, none of them make sense without the full context of the dream. For example, one I was on a road clearing crew during a hurricane (I live in Louisiana), another I was working at school again, etc. It's impossible for me to draw out the entire dream because the flashes were so unrelated.

While going to sleep, I tried to think as definitively as possible that I was going to become lucid, and I was going to be dreaming shortly. Since I was awakened an hour later, I think it ruined my concentration.

      9.30:

Weird night. I kept waking up, tried to WILD, crashed, but the main dream was odd in that I was trying to ride jet skis at a really tacky camp, and this doctor kept trying to give me advice unrelated to my conditions. The doctor kept refusing to let me go which is obviously my real-life desire for such a purchase leaking into my dreams.

For the sake of clarity, I had several false awakenings. To make it clearer, I will use brackets.

      {dream 1: in bed
I could tell where everything was in proportion to where I was asleep. I didn't last long, as I went into my first deep awakening.
{dream 2: in the same bed, but totally different house
      {dream 3: somewhere else
Not sure much on this dream. I remember having various bad dreams, and I could hear talking. Physics was almost a non-thing, so I "woke up" pretty quickly."
      /dream 3}
Things were just bad when I woke up. I could hear arguments from my girlfriend's mom and dad. I couldn't remember important stuff I needed to do.
      /dream 2}
I woke up into false awakening 3, which was an origional scene in the beginning. A man wanted to buy a movie from me, and I was confused because I wake up, relieved that the previous dream was in fact a dream. While dealing with this situation, stuff poured in from that previous dream, and Danny Devito showed up as Frank. He also nearly killed my cat by poisoning him accidentally.

I didn't have the movie, and the guy went beserk and started going crazy. I had a friend tackle him, I for some reason bit his face, then I woke up fully understanding that this was in fact real life.
      /dream 1}

I wish I would have gotten RCing at awakening into my unconscious habits.

This first dream or so I don't remember much. I know I was chasing a friend with a "drug problem" but in reality he just wanted to go to his old place of employment for some unknown reason. Dream was weird as this point with a guy we knew cheating physics to win money.

Second dream was somehow stranger. Essentially, there was a "create your own story" where real people acted as animals, etc in virtual reality to a story someone created. So, basically, I was the one who betrayed everyone to prove some moral, so I was going to end up in a bad position. I knew this, but I was compelled to do so anyway.

      Missed Class #1:

While MILD and DILD are quite similar, DILDing is far more random whereas MILDing is based on day-to-day work and focus. With DILDing we have to do RCs and intend on LDing. With MILDing we focus on a specific dream to force ourselves into (ala Dream Tasks). Dream Journals are massively important in inducing lucid dreams because they help us draw connections in dreams, become aware of our dreams, and hopefully, become lucid. Waking Journals are great ways to keep your mind clear, such as writing down things that bother you as well as general thoughts. Wake-Back-To-Bed (WBTB) is a great way to break the sleep cycle and initiate a MILD. The human mind works best when there is a direct goal to keep it on track (again, like that tasks). TV is best to be avoid 10 - 15 minutes before bed. Dreams engage our receptive right side of our brain, and that forces us to accept dreams as reality, which is the opposite of what MILDing is all about. While bad day residue can be bad (say thinking of stressful things), some day residue can help create a lucid dream such as focusing our time on LDing. It's good to have a short mantra to repeat and focus on while heading to bed, and we should affirm ourselves as we head to sleep.

It's important to withhold thrill since it can destroy focus during a MILD, and this can cause you to wake up. It's also important to know why you want to lucid dream (my personal reason is to expend some creativity that I have bursting to get out). About this point in the transcript I learned I missed the most important MILD class (FML...), but I'll use that as a test. Instead of focusing on negativity and feeling of insurmountableness, I'll focus on proving I am capable even without. I notice most, that since coming to DV, I've begun "meditating" and clearing my mind before sleep. This usually brings me to a faster sleep.

Once again it was reiterated that missing the next class (which I did do to a schedule change), but I feel confident that I can accomplish anything. I will try to post my next summary tomorrow some time, but tonight, I must sleep early. I lacked much recall last night, so I want to make sure I have enough time to sleep, wake, and recall.

AND MY PAGE RELOADED AND DIDN'T SAVE ANY OF MY MESSAGE AHHHHHHHHH

To summarize: Lucidity induced from MILDing comes mainly from incubation and positive thoughts. Instead of incubating the entire dream, it's important to focus on a few instances of the set-up along with creating something that will stand out. It's important to positively believe you will lucid dream rather than let failed attempts bump you out. Lucid dreaming also works well when setting goals, like the goal of the month. I think for mine I will incubate a classroom where I can IM via a computer that responds to my voice. While on the same concept, I have a personal LD goal of doing parkour in an abandoned city. In order to incubate this I must focus on creating the abandoned city. I have a recurring city, that I've visited since childhood, so I plan to base it around this.

While my summary is no way near as long as my previous, the core ideas I've learned is incubating a dream that is significant enough so I will perform an RC. While doing this, I should maintain the concept that I will LD without issue.

Incubation for 10.06: I picture a lush forest set in the distance on my desert scene. The forest, which engages my synaesthesia, reminds me of watermelon candy and a pine tree smell like at a campground. In the barren sand, I smell salt air like a beach. These two juxtaposition should create enough disarray for me to become lucid.

      10.7:

Fun night. From about 10 - 12:30, I had no recall. At 12:30, I woke up, inexplicably, and I checked my phone a few times. When I went back to sleep, I tried to WILD for all of 10 seconds. I had a dream of a desert visage, but it wasn't deep enough and I wasn't lucid, but 30 minutes of incubation can cause that then I am in good standing! I also began my Task of the Month with a computer screen and Facebook. I was QUITE close to getting that one.

Before going to bed, I started reading Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self by Robert Waggoner until I was too tired to go on. As I headed to sleep, I tried to clear my head of all things except my MILD attempt.

Incubation for 10.7: I want to build that desert some more, and make it more unique. At work, during my 15 minute breaks, I plan to commit enough of it to memory along with my Task of the Month so neither are overwhelming my mind, and it gets bored.

Absolutely no recall. Not sure what happened, but I spent the last few minutes of being awake incubating. I think I may have watched too much TV before bed though. Gonna try to go to bed early tonight and make sure I have no TV and just video games. Bummed...

Incubation for 10.8: Yesterday, I spent every few minutes incubating the dream when I was free. I formed the desert clearly, but I need to focus on my surroundings more. I need to focus on awareness.

      10.9:

EXTREMELY close to my task of the month. First, I woke up after using my REM dreamer to no dreams at all. Once I finally stopped trying (WILDing and all), I had a dream where I woke up to my day, disappointed at no dreams. In the dream, I conversed with two people via AIM, and spoke to MANY more. So close!

Incubation for 10.9: Gonna go A LOT more passive with my desert scene. I need to find my gentle medium.

Had a good buzz going last night after a bottle of wine (I know, I know). I expected no recall, and I had 3 good dreams. Dream one I remember realizing was a dream when I had a false awakening and went into dream two. I was upset that I had no recall so I threw that one out, then started dream 2 which was similar to waking life. Dream 3 I was an assassin along with some assimiliation into The Office (US version). In this, I was spoken to about several life events and briefly on lucidity (tried to hit Task of the Month before bed). I then walked to an area in a desert which a task Percy set for MILDing.

My mind seems to work in that I can set the dream before hand, but I have trouble gaining lucidity. I think I need to study DILDing.

Incubation for 10.10: I need to figure out a manner in which I can attain lucidity by my environments. I think I will focus on a mantra similar to Robert Wagonner's "Look at your hands."

Tried using my REM Dreamer and it failed me again. For some reason, I just wake up from the bright lights/tone. I MAY be having a few false awakenings, but it's hindering my recall.

      10.12:

Hmm... I had a epidural yesterday to work on a spinal disc that is herniated. After the procedure (about 4:40 - 5), I was babbling incoherently for the ride home. When I came home, I slept until 7, took NyQuil, then slept until 11, then woke up this morning. I, jokingly, attempted to WILD but I crashed before I could even clear my mind. I had one memorable dream where I was a good 10 years younger, and I was with a friend in the woods deciding what we should do that night. Some girl invited me to a Halloween Baptism (I didn't follow, but apparently I knew what it was, and it was supposed to be lame), but I was attracted to her. The rest of the dream was me trying to convince this friend we wanted to go via games. I can't remember any of them except one where he had to hide of pile of dirt, and if I found it, we'd go. As I counted, he disappeared. The rest of the dream was spent looking for him.

Strange dream, no doubt encouraged by the amount of painkillers I was on. First, I remember the dream was dark, yet vivid. Then, the dream was a cross between Lovecraftian monsters, Freddy Krueger, and the video game Diablo. Sadly, it was, yet again, a non-lucid.

The key enemy was a man, like Freddy Krueger, who could dream hop and loved to harm children. I, along with three others, were immune to him as long as we killed 4 creatures that gave us elemental powers. The colors were red, green, blue, and black, representing fire, life, water, and death, respectively. At one point, under the power of fire, I began to cook meat while the enemy spoke to me. For me, he saw potential and wanted to teach me more. I assume it was a guise because once we surrendered ourselves to him, we'd be killed, and he'd be free. The ending of the dream was extremely fuzzy, but I can remember fearing nothing. The colored creatures we faced, representing each element, were very Lovecraftian. I can remember the blue creature being a Toad Man similar to the fish monsters in "Shadow over Innsmouth."

That was an awesome dream I like those Epic histories movies.

To bad it was against Freddy Krueger! I always deified him... when I was a kiddo, if I had a lucid nightmare (99% of my nightmares were lucid) and control was bad, I would summon Freddy and he would help me out!
