The Realm of Malivio Von Draxis: Dream Control Class

This thread is my dedicated workbook/dream journal with a few psychology tidbits interspersed.

      Introduction: Getting into Lucid Dreaming

I originally got into LDing as a way of dealing with insomnia. I thought that I could use sleep paralysis to help me fall aslep. Thats when I stumbled on this site, alas I didn't get into it then. Since then I stumbled upon a philosophical treatise on the value of the psychology of dreams and one's ability to control them.

That's when I got into this, and over the course of a month and a half, I practiced diligently and had about five lucid dreams. I keep a dream journal regularly, but have trouble recalling at times depending on sleep patterns demanded by school.

Part 1: My Dream Signs and Trends

My dreams tend to lean towards day residue with a mixture of schemata basing in reality. As a full time student at boarding school, as you might expect, a large portion of my dreams are based in my academic world ect. That said, it makes life particularly difficult when literally everything could be a dream. This has caused me no end of trouble as I attempt to become lucid.

I can have a completely realistic dream and then something insane happens, like the school book store feels cold and then a raging fire opens up. I won't pick up on. But oh well, I'm working on it.

Next up, day residue. I've taught myself to LD over the course of a month and a hall. I can't incubate or induce reliably yet, but I'm getting better. Day residue seems to play a big part of my dream world. For example last night after our first class on dream control, I dreamed about it. I dreamed that we were a group, almost like a secret society, called the Diviners (pronounce Div-in-ers) that seeked enlightenment.

Part 2: A Brief Reflection on My Dreams

Freudian trends also pop into my dreams quite a bit. The advent of day residue and primal feelings (lust, anger, fear) combine with introspection and philosophy to make some weird experiences. I've had the traditional exploration of forbidden fantasies, but also spent time asking DC's what they mean or represent. All of these questions, inquiries, and desires seem to have a basis in my daily life.

This leads me to believe that dreams are essential to personal growth. The more we can attune to them and learn from mistakes we make in dreams, the better we will become in waking life (not real life, because lucidity is simply the internalized perception without external stimuli.) This is root of my desire to learn dream control; personal growth

Because of this and my beginning to LD, I believe that anyone can LD or control dreams, given enough time and dedication An example would be my first LD, a WILD.

Part 3: First Real LD and Control

I remember going into the dream world, having read a ton about it, I was expecting something. It felt like I had my spirit being pulled out of my body and placed next to me. I had rolled out of my body and I was ecstatic. This was my first real LD (I say real because I then went back to my DJ and saw that I had realized that I was dreaming, which qualifiies as an LD technically).

I was in my dorm room and I saw my door. I tried to summon someone behind the door, but it didn't work. Partially because I didn't really know I could do it. I went outside and tried to fly, it didn't work.

The next day, I had another LD. I went outside and jumped up and tried to fly. First time it didn't work, but then I tried going superman and remembering it was a dream. Then I went Neo style (arms at the side) and it worked. I remember diving down on trees and doing loops. A friend flew up next to me and said I was going like a pro, why hadn't I been able to do it yesterday. I quipped back, that I just needed to try it and believe.

      Goals:
Less Haziness (I want to be able to control, and consciously decide what I'm doing)
      More LD's
Crazy stuff (I want to shoot fireballs etc, realize that the dream world is mine alone)

Wow that's a wall of text, but thats where I'm at. I will post my DJ's here and mark them accordingly.

      Assignment 1:

Part 1: Well that's listed above (it was to examine where your dreams come from.

Part 2: Schemata and Their Uses

As best I can tell, Schemata are essentially different Universes that our mind creates in dreams. Most of my dreams tend to stay in the Universe of Lucid Dreams (ie preconceived notions) and thus I tend to have difficulty in doing more outlandish things, though I have had success with commanding something, looking away and it being as I asked. That said, I have plans for conceiving my own schemata based off of a fusion of fantasy/games/philosophical musings to create an avatar, "Malivio von Draxis."

Said character will be a Psionic (someone who can control things and minds, similar to telekinesis). I chose this because it remains firmly in the realm of my mind and therefore is a good stepping stone. There will be no hurling of fire balls (yet) but instead invisible mental force. This is easier for me to imagine because the thing that gives me control is the thing that controls the dream. Essentially, by saying to myself, "I need only think it because I am a psionic," I can sort of fool myself into using controls that I wouldn't usually have.

Of course, this is all theory and I will get back here and post my findings after my next LD.

      Non lucid

I am at my computer chatting in an IRC. We are discussing politics, religion and philosophy. I am a new initiate to this group which calls themselves the "Diviners' pronounced "Div-n-er." This group reminds me sort of free masons

      _________
This is obviously coming as a result of my first class here where we had an IRC chat. The chat involved many members of an exclusive group (being that it is password protected). We discussed all the things listed above and the free mason allusion comes from a conversation I had had the day before about religion and control. This ties together because I am seeking dream control, and the masons had control of stuff.

My mind seems to like making these parallel connections to what is going on in my life at the time.

Fantastic essay, Draxis I notice my dreams are like yours. A great many are based around day residue and just normal, waking life stuff like work. Makes it really hard to catch things too. I'm actually better at catching things IRL than I am when dreaming, though, hehe But, it's also caused me to struggle with lucidity.

One thing, I'm not sure if I'm going to bring this particular technique up in class, since it's not really dream control... but if I can't make something look like it worked (for ex. a disguise, or turning invisible), I've taught myself to just pretend that it worked It's always a shock to me when the DC's react as if the thing actually worked, even though I can't see it!

I'm not sure how well this works for things like fireballs and flight. So far, it only seems to work for visual stuff.

      Homework
Read the basic task of the month and come up with a way to actively and passively complete the task. Describe how you became lucid (WILD Dream sign RC ect) and then stabilized the dream. Then walk me through how you completed the task in each manner.

Walk through a mushroom patch eh? Alrighty then

      Passive Method

Summoning things seems to have been easy for me so I would look out for dream signs that things aren't in their proper place. Having just graduated from school, any time I dream of a class mate I will try to force myself to do a reality check. Once I've gotten this, I would do what I have done with people, just look away and look back and expect the mushrooms to be there. Or perhaps I will envision the door to my dorm room and open it to the garden of mushrooms I expect my neighbors had been growing...

      Active Method

Having just become lucid after seeing something that appears wrong, say a flying elevator (I seem to be seeing those a lot lately...) I will try something new. When I want something to show up, I am used just making them appear. I plan to use that to create a single mushroom at first and scan it using my omni-tool (http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Omni-tools). Then I plan to use the omni-tool to project the layout of a field and cause the mushrooms to appear so I can walk through them. I like the idea of using the omni-tool because it will serve as a crutch as I first work with active control and, being a tech sort of guy, it seems more plausible than magic almost.

Sorry for the rushed reply, but things have been busy and I wasn't expecting to have class tonight.
