Sony announced on the 27th (i think), the NGP (Next Generation Portable), i.e. the PSP2.
There isn't a release date or a price yet. But it's expected to be released later this year.
Here is a good collection of information about it.
And here are the specs:
Spoiler for specs:
-CPU: ARM® Cortex™-A9 core (4 core)
-GPU: SGX543MP4+

Dual analogue sticks will be awesome for first person shooters (And they are proper analogue sticks, not the slidy shit you get on the psp now.
The 3-axis accelerometer and gyroscope makes it similar sensors to the iPod, but it also has a 3-axis compass, so that's even better.
And an interesting thing is, the screen is a touch screen, and there is also a touch panel on the back, for more control over games. (Multi-touch for both of them)
And they say this thing is powerful enough to run proper full games like what they would have on the ps3. Similar graphics too.
And they aint using UMD anymore. The games will be stored on a flash memory thing, which means a shit ton of stuff can be stored on it (that's a big part in allowing proper games on it)
GPS built in. So I'm hoping for a good sat-nav app thing for it.
It allows 3G too, that's pretty awesome.
2 cameras, a bit cliche nowadays, and not too useful on a psp, but it's still cool.
And a cool thing they have is a thing they call "LiveArea", which lets you see psp2 owners who are near to you, and you can see their rank, and what they are playing, etc.
As for battery, it' said to be similar to 3DS battery life, which will be in the range of 4-7 hours. But it isn't a replaceable battery, so let's hope for a clip-on batter pack or something.
And there's a lineup of first-games, and that includes Call of Duty, Killzone, Little Big Planet, and a few other popular stuff.
Neat! when you say there isn't a replaceable battery does that mean you can't buy the battery separately? I have a PSP slim and that was a huge problem for me. I looked everywhere for batteries, you can't actually buy them anywhere - it seemed like the only thing to do was to buy a whole nother PSP just for an extra battery. I eventually found one at a place called battery world, but it didn't work properly. I then looked on ebay, and bought one, once again did not work properly. Finally, I bought another one on ebay from somewhere else, which worked. Absolutely hopeless! I even went to the Sony store who didn't have any, and told me I would have to jump through a few dozen hoops trying to get one. Why make it so difficult? its just a battery for christs sake. Sorry, I'll stop ranting now.
Well, for the psp1, I found it easy to get batteries, although I don't know about the psp slim.
But for the psp2, it's just not possible.
Apparently they found it impossible to have a good way of having both a rear touchpad, and a replaceable batter cover.
It's basically the same as an iPod.
But hopefully they will make some sort of clip-on external battery pack thing. iPod has a few of those.
And if Sony don't make one, then I'm sure someone will make one. It's just a battery that plugs into the charger port.
