PASIV Device (Inception) and some interesting viral information about Project Somnacin
Following a debate I was having last night, about the way the suitcase machine from Inception actually works, I decided to look for the viral campaign info on the machine, which I'd come across, shortly after the movie came out. The debate was on whether or not the machine (which wasn't really explained in any detail, during the film) actually did something that "connected" the minds of the dreamers - in a strictly physical, sci-fi type of way - or if the machine simply administered a drug/sedative chemical, which simply developed the already-existing, fantasy-based phenomenon in the Inception universe (that Dream-Sharing is inherently possible), to a level that it is actually replicable and reliable. My stance was the latter.
All the machine actually does is facilitate a timed release of the drug Somnacin (which is a fictional drug that even New Scientist says works in a way that simply isn't possible) to multiple dreamers. I just thought this information might be interesting to those of you who are in love with all things Inception-related.
Also, here is a viral video with interviews with 'experts,' who talk about lucid dreaming, dream control, and Project Somnacin. Not really sure of the purpose of the guy at the end trying to say that it was impossible to control dreams, but I'm sure there's a good explanation for that. Lol.

Actually, the drug is the conduit that connects the dreamers. The machine simply administers the I.V. That is why they hook up to each others' wrists - not their heads.
I never really paid much attention to the device but yeah, if it's just an IV thing then it's just fantasy... if they were going for realism then something like the apparatus in Eternal Sunshine would have been more appropriate.
