      Your favorite electronic music

For some reason I could never appreciate instrumental music. My first real idols were The Prodigy when I was ten. Then when I was 11 there were the Chemical Brothers and since then my music taste kept developing towards the alternative electronic music. There was a period when I was 14-15 that I was into drum'n bass, especially Pendulum back then.

When I became 16 I discovered Amon Tobin, still my favorite artist, he makes all kinds of music with samples. He is a master at sampling, most of his sampleswere recorded by him. He uses the weirdest sounds in his music like ants scraping on foil. There isn't any artist similar to him, his music is authentic. Some people compare him with DJ Shadow but they don't sound the same, there are allot of differences. I also first bought the splinter cell soundtrack by him and bought the game afterwards, normally it should be vice versa.

      some music by him:

      some dreamy music:

      That's it for now!

      further:

I'm also IN LOVE with autechre, especially the CD 'incunabula'.
Autechre make more basic electronic music but they're unique in their own way, it's all so dreamy. I get sentimental when I listen to autechre, there are these specific emotions that are put in this music. I feel loneliness, warmth, grief and some familiar nostalgic feeling and imagery in my brain.

I'm someone who gets images in his head when he listens certain music. These images are just photographs from partially real memories, partially fictional things like this car in the middle of a rainy field, the view from the bottom of a mountain, a bald tree in a snowy field.

strange, I also wanted to place those 2 here and why do I find this strange? Because I don't have a broad taste of music I only like about 10-15 artists. Venetian snares is so awesome!!! Squarepusher too of course, Hello Everything is my favorite album.

Apart from stuff that most people appreciate like Aphex Twin etc. I really love Dubstep. I listen to dubstep.fm and they always have good stuff on, especially with Dank Dealz.

I don't have many favorites in that area, but Rumblejunkie would probably be one of them.
He made Dope Angel which is still the sexiest/most erotic song I've heard to this day.

      Rumblejunkie on Virb.com

He also made a song "How You Lose a Dream" but he took it off his site, it was impressive. Hope I can get my hands on that some day.

I like a bit of drum n bass, I love Steve Roach's "Dreamtime Return" which is more ambient, but I'm also a fan of the harsher kind of electronic music, more industrial/noisy stuff.

      Serkat, that track was great!
      Here's one of my favourites:

Drum and bass counts as electronic?

Obvious mainstream, Pendulum, Celldweller, Blue Stahli, Chemical brothers, Venetian Snares, etc, I'll add more later.

I love different kinds of electronica, for different reasons. I like the more technical stuff like Squarepusher and Amon Tobin for the sheer complexity and instrumentation, but I love to dance, so my heart really lies with big, phat beats. I couldn't really touch on everything I like, but here are just a few of the kinds of tracks I love the most.

      The Prodigy - Breathe:

      Hybrid - Finished Symphony:

      Hybrid - If I Survive:

Sasha and John Digweed - Out of Body Experience (Rabbit in the Moon mix)

And one of my own music videos - this is a remix to the Crystal Method song "Trip Like I Do", which had no lyrics, but I really like this collaboration with Filter:

I also have some of my own breakbeat mixes up, which have a lot of kickass tracks on them. Feel free to check 'em out and see if there is anything you like.

      Another one of my favorites.
Fade - No Resolve (Nu Tribe Mix):

This is from the album Orlando Breakz vol. 2 by DJ Rob-E. Both volume 1 and 2 are legendary. Get them both, if you haven't heard them.

      does anyone else like:

Manitoba (aka Caribou) - my personal favorite; I have no idea what they use to create their songs, but whatever it is it's some of the most beautiful and eclectic electronic noise imaginable; highly-recommended as sleep music. look up the song "Hendrix with Ko"

The Books - field-recordings mashed with soundclips of tv and radio and other random shite, with the addition of a cello; miraculously melodic for being noise. the album Lost And Safe is a concept about a man who's lived isolated on a mountain his whole life, then comes down to experience modern society for the first time. look up the song "Enjoy Your Worries, You May Never Have Them Again"

Animal Collective - sounds like music made by native tribes or by aliens, with indiscernable lyrics, extreme vocal-layering, and strange instruments; good for a mushroom trip. look up the song "Leaf House"

Treewave - an obscure band that uses computer sounds and sounds from vintage viodeogame consoles like Atari to make music; their website offers free mp3s. look up the song "May Banners"

Broken Social Scene - eclectic style and samplings, and a mix of conventional and strange instruments, sounds like the beach for some reason; highly-recommended as sleep music. look up the song "lover's spit"

M83 - static-y and feedback-y, but melodic and eclectic; sounds like flying through outerspace. look up the song "Run Into Flowers"

Hood - down-tempo and lyric-driven, but with strange samples and noises laced with fuzz and static. look up the song "The Lost You"

Matmos - like The Books, these guys make music using nothing but field-recordings and soundclips; they do concept albums based on the kinds of noises used (i.e. - "A Chance To Cut Is A Chance To Cure" uses the sounds of plastic surgery- and other medical-instruments, and "The Civil War" uses the sounds of weapons, antique period instruments, etc.) look up the song "Lipostudio...And So On"

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - fuzzy and eclectic lo-fi, made with random 50's/60's/70's music soundclips, vocals done over answering machines, and mouth-percussion; very unique. look up the song "Life In L.A."

Not your typical electronica, but good nonetheless, in my opinion. I also like The K-Pax soundtrack, but I don't know anything about it.Anyone have similar electronic interests?

These two bands are largely influenced by an old genre called shoegaze. If you like this kind of stuff then I strongly recommend you check out My Bloody Valentine's Loveless. It's the best album ever made basically... ethereal melodies with an incredible production technique. Give it a listen, on full volume.

...not to sound ungrateful of your impeccable musical recommendation--as I can see by your sig you're a big fan of MBV--but I discovered Loveless as a junior in highschool; they were the first of many lovers in a long and sordid (ongoing) love affair with shoegaze (as well as my first musical sleeping aid), and they're still the best.

But since we're on the same page, I'll see your recommendation and raise you one of my own. Check out Senor Coconut and His Orchestra's version of Loveless. Its the whole album, played by stringed (and other fun) instrumentation. Most hardcore MBV fans are against it, but I love the way it gives the same elements a whole new feel.

Oh...and somehow I totally forgot to include:

      • Boards of Canada
      • Isolee
      • Four-Tet
      • Dntel
      • Pilooski
      • and Flying Saucer Attack

to my list. They aren't to be overlooked either.

P.S. - Shoegaze is not dead. Viva le resistance.

Oh yeah, definitely... very recently I've been looking into some of the new stuff. Do you have any recommendations? Most shoegaze asides from Loveless (and all of MBV's other EPs which are on an almost equal level) was pretty hit and miss in my opinion; a few bands with a few good songs (Chapterhouse with Pearl, etcetera...). The only possible exception would be Ride's Nowhere, I suppose. All others seemed to lack that consistent life... but some of the new stuff I've found has been consistently good. In particular I came across Asobi Seksu's Citrus which is very MBV (I assume you've heard that one though)... Engineers are another very good one, and quite obscure at the moment; they have quite an original sound, too.

I'm not sure about that cover of Loveless, but I have listened to one, which was by a band called Japancakes... it sounds very similar, I'm not sure if it's the same. I thought it was very good, I remember liking the Only Shallow and Sometimes covers in particular...

It's great to hear from someone who 'gets' shoegaze anyway... we're a pretty rare bunch I think, judging by the reactions of my friends. Any sort of general album recommendation would be very welcome too... I'm really quite frustrated at not being able to find anything that betters the aura of Loveless, asides from a select few (namely some Beatles albums, the Stone Roses and the La's...).

Thats funny to see this kind of thread here. I love electronic music!!!

      I can't get enough of this http://z0r.de/?id=155

I load it and let it play in the background everytime I browse the web.

I have a library of just electronic songs on my laptop. I don't know the names though I just love the songs.

Heck my youtube profile is filled with electronic favorites and some of my own.

You're so right. It IS Japancakes...Senor Coconut is the guy that did the Kraftwerk cover album. My bad.

Asobi Seksu is tops. I also like Flying Saucer Attack, but they're a lot more lo-fi than MBV.

....It's hard to think of other bands that do the same thing to the same degree. I still think MBV is the best.

A few solid recomendations I could offer would be: Broadcast which is more down-tempo and minimalized compared to MBV, but still very ethereal (try the album Tender Buttons, for starters)...and Lush which has the same soaring, outer-spacey feel, but are less eclectic (the first album of their's I heard was Split).

Or perhaps Galaxie500, which is older, but I would say definately paved the way for shoegaze in general (Stone Roses, and Jesus And The Mary Chain seem to have taken their cue from Galaxie500).

Other, only-semi-shoegaze favorites of mine include Beach House's album Devotion, which sounds more like Broadcast, minimalized with very echo-y vocals...Slowreader, Ride, Low, and Slowdive which are a lot more conventional, and down-tempo...Hum which leans more toward the metal/rock crowd...and some Flaming Lips (i.e. - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (a personal favorite album, so pretty it makes me cry), Zareeka, or Hit To Death In The Future Head) which is a lot more pop-y.

These all seem like really obvious choices that I'm sure you've looked into, so this probably doesn't help much, but that's all I can think of at the moment...
